#DYK that those leaves painting the forest floor in shades of gold, red, and brown are doing tree-mendous work? They may appear to be leaf litter or even beautiful fall decor, but in truth, they are nature's way of keeping the forest rooted in good health! These fallen leaves 🍄 Return nutrients to the soil 🐛 Provide shelter for wildlife 💧 Keep the forest floor moist 🌱 Build healthy soil for new growth Next time you walk through a forest this fall, take the time to not only admire the un-be-leaf-able canopy of colours, but look down. You may be able to see nature working its magic!🍂 #ForestsCanada #ForestFloor #FallenLeaves #AutumnColors #NatureLovers #HealthySoil #WildlifeHabitat #FallForest #SoilHealth

🌲 What happens after wildfire? Post-wildfire reforestation is a critical part of long-term forest recovery, yet it has received comparatively less attention than wildfire suppression, risk assessment, and mitigation. A recent research article published in Forestry Chronicle by Canadian Institute of Forestry / Institut forestier du Canada by Forests Canada's Amber Brant, Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) Dr. Nelson Thiffault, and consultant Dr. Season Snyder, helps to better understand the decisions and approaches for post-wildfire forest restoration in Canada, including: 🌱 Tree spacing and microsite selection 🌲 Species selection and nursery stock 💰 Operational costs 🦺 Occupational health and safety 🔥 Planning for future wildfire risk 🪵Salvage logging practices Read the article - pubs.cif-ifc.org/doi/10.5558…

🌱Some milestones are measured in numbers. Others, are measured in the impact they make. Planting one million trees through a partnership between Forests Canada and the @greenbeltca is an incredible achievement, but the real impact will be seen for decades to come. These trees are helping restore diverse and resilient forests, strengthen ecosystems, create connected habitats, and so much more. Behind that number are countless hands, partnerships, communities, and a shared commitment to leaving our natural landscapes stronger than we found them. When we invest in healthy landscapes today, we’re helping build more resilient communities for generations to come. 🌱 Learn more about the project impact today! forestscanada.ca/en/article/…

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the lost children and the survivors of residential schools, and recognize the multi-generational impacts experienced by families and communities who continue to carry the weight of this atrocious history. As we reflect, we are also reminded of the deep connection between Indigenous peoples, the land, and the natural world. Indigenous knowledge and relationships with the land have long held important lessons about caring for forests, biodiversity, and living in balance with nature. We are striving to find new ways of enhancing our collaboration with Indigenous communities to carry out meaningful work together that supports agency and autonomy of Indigenous Peoples and their responsibilities to lands, forests, and landscapes. Today, and every day, may we continue to listen, learn, and work together to uplift Indigenous voices and walk together towards a healthier future for our communities, our forests, and future generations.

🌳Celebrating National Forest Week in Nova Scotia! Members of the Forests Canada Restoration team toured several regions across the province, seeing some of our forest recovery efforts firsthand. A highlight was visiting a property in West Dalhousie being planted with partner Community Forests Canada following the 2025 wildfire that affected 8,500 hectares in the Annapolis Valley. White Pine, Red Spruce, Black Spruce, White Spruce, and Red Oak are being planted to support forest recovery and contribute to a healthier Annapolis Watershed. 🌱 The team also visited a nine-year-old restoration site planted in 2017 after a wildfire, now thriving as a diverse mixed-wood forest. From seedlings to established young forests, these sites showcase the lasting impact of restoration work. 🌲

New Milestone Unlocked: One Million Trees Planted in the Greenbelt! 🌳🎉🌲 This National Forest Week, Forests Canada and the Greenbelt Foundation celebrated a significant milestone: one million trees planted across Ontario’s Greenbelt since 2022. We celebrated this achievement at Heber Down Conservation Area in Whitby, Ontario, with a guided hike showcasing how strategic tree planting can increase forest cover and biodiversity, improve water quality, and reduce flooding and extreme heat across Greenbelt communities. This is just the beginning! Earlier research identified a need for 54 million native trees across the Greater Golden Horseshoe to reach 30% healthy forest cover. Every tree planted today is an investment that will only keep growing! 🌱 Read more: ow.ly/OZQc50ZRbVp

Fall is officially here! 🍂 As forests put on their annual display of yellow, orange, red, purple, and brown, we’re taking a moment to appreciate the trees that make this season so special and remember that change can be something to celebrate. During National Forest Week, we’re celebrating the beauty, biodiversity, and benefits of our forests, and we’re especially grateful for the trees that bring colour to our landscapes, provide homes for wildlife, and help create healthier communities. So as you get out and enjoy the changing leaves this fall, take a moment to look up, slow down, and appreciate the forests around you. 🍂

Seed is the foundation for resilient greenspaces and thriving ecosystems.  🌱 "Diversity Our Strength" isn't just a motto for the @cityoftoronto; it's also taking root in the city's thriving urban forests. Thanks to a growing diversity of trees and shrubs, the city's natural spaces are becoming stronger, healthier, and more resilient each year.  In 2021, Forests Canada and the City of Toronto launched a landmark 10-year Tree Seed Diversity Program partnership to strengthen the genetic diversity and long-term resilience of natural spaces across Canada's largest city. As we mark the midway point of our collaboration, we're proud to celebrate the seeds of change that have grown into meaningful, lasting results.  From the trusted supply of source-identified seed – to produce the trees and shrubs tailored to meet the city's growing needs - to the long-term impact and diversity of Toronto's urban forests, this foundational program is meeting the complex and urgent need for ecosystem restoration.
