The models of today are not too smart. In fact, the problem is that they are too stupid in the face of ambiguity. So what one needs is safety and guardrails to not allow them to do stupid things, rather than worrying about them being of superhuman intelligence.
Francois is spot on here. I think concentration of anything is bad, and definitely a technology like this, whether it is scary or not, any level of extreme concentration is bad. The solution is easy: just open-source it as much as possible. That's it.

Exactly my point. It's all in your hands. You can slow down. That may put pressure on others to slow down too, instead of scaring the whole universe with half-transparent things.
If @DarioAmodei wants to slow down Anthropic that’s his choice — do it today!
If he wants to lobby other frontier models to do the same, that’s fine as well — he did that today!
However, don’t go crying to the government and beg them to slow down open source models — has he been doing that behind the scenes?
I just hope that AI doomerism stays away from India. The only thing that matters to us is that we have to get our act together as far as AI innovation is concerned. We cannot afford to be an AI colony. I hope we don't get sidelined by any other narrative. 🙏
