30 years ago, policymakers considered a "bit tax" framed as 1 cent per 100 emails. Against today's internet use, that's an impossible $780,000 per household. With a bit tax, the internet would have developed quite differently. A lesson for AI taxes. thesaltroad.net/p/what-if-we…

Gives off Civilization II vibes
This is a better way to visualize Columbus’ voyages than the traditional way (that shows him traveling through a modern map).. It looks a lot crazier and more daring when you see it as a trip into the unknown.

Extremely excited to announce our first air-to-air kill of a flying moth by an autonomous micro-drone. This is a big step towards completely eradicating mosquitoes.

A day in Manhattan, warped so that distance ≈ drive time. Drive times swell in the morning and evening rush hour, then contract in the night.

Wow. This is the way you want criminals to be talking about your anti-crime tech.
One of the most prolific criminals in all of San Francisco tells @adam22 that “crime in San Francisco is over with” because of Flock cameras + drones. He complains that he can’t even do drivebys anymore. It’s simple: when the risk of getting caught is too high, crime plummets.

New UK screen time rules just dropped — and they’re stricter than most parents expected. From 27 March 2026, England says: zero solo screens for under-2s (except quick video calls with family), and max one hour a day for 2–5 year olds — no screens at meals or the hour before bed. Co-view everything, stick to slow-paced content, and ditch fast social-media clips and AI toys completely. The science is sobering: toddlers’ brains process info up to 10 times slower than adults. Fast-paced screens push them into fight-or-flight mode — racing heart, surging energy — while they’re sitting still. Researchers at the University of East London say this mismatch can wire kids for more tantrums and emotional struggles later. Using screens to calm meltdowns? It often backfires long-term. As a parent, it’s brutal — we all know that explosion the second you take the tablet away. But this feels like evidence finally catching up with what our gut has been telling us. How are you handling screens with little ones — strict limits, co-viewing, or mostly winging it?

Mr Beast lined up one person from each age 1-100 and had them race to a finish line, and the overhead camera is an oddly beautiful data visualization of speed by age.

A little girl’s father had gone missing. The girl drew a sketch of her father for the police. And as soon as the police found the man, seeing his actual photograph made the news anchors burst out laughing. 😅

The "left" did not assassinate Charlie Kirk. The "right" did not assassinate Melissa Hortman and her husband. An individual did. Anyone claiming collective guilt is trying to manipulate you.

Every single one of us has a profound interest in government at every level strictly observing due process of law. All of us should be deeply concerned by any violation of anyone's due process rights, whether in criminal or administrative matters. We might like what government can more efficiently accomplish by disregarding proper legal procedures today. But we will rue the day we licensed such governmental misconduct when, tomorrow, a different government disregards legal procedures to achieve quickly results we abhor. The government in power, whatever it is, will not always be in power. There will "arise a pharaoh who remembereded not Joseph." If we want due process for ourselves and in defense of things we cherish and believe in, we must insist on due process for everyone.

All languages covey information at a similar rate when spoken (39bits/s). Languages that are spoken faster have less information density per syllable! One of the coolest results in linguistics.

When I have a disagreement with a girl now, I export my entire chat history with her into AI and ask it to analyze the conversation, then paste the results to her There is absolutely nothing she can do; it's a brutal mog I then tell her to contact me after she has spoken to AI
