Growing up as a white kid in Southern California, Aunt Jemima syrup was just part of breakfast. Me and my brother loved it. I trusted that smiling face on the bottle like she was somebody’s aunt who might show up and make you a stack of pancakes herself. Then one day, after years of political pressure, the brand was gone. Now it’s Pearl Milling Company, and half the time I walk right past it because it doesn’t even register as the same product. That’s what happens when companies let activists destroy decades of brand recognition to satisfy people who were never buying the syrup anyway. And spare me the outrage over Trump renaming something. The same crowd spent years demanding names, statues, mascots, schools, products, and everything else be changed. Bring Aunt Jemima back.
