If you're animating in UIKit using Core Animation, the fromValue on your animation should be pulled from the view's layer.presentationLayer not just the view's layer if you want to support flawless interruptibility

New pod drop!! Congrats to Quinten Farmer (@quintendf), co-founder of Tolan, on a $30M raise from @usv and @khoslaventures, for a total of $60M in funding!
Quinten sold his last company to Walmart, then opened a pizza place and started keeping bees on the island he grew up on. Now he’s building Tolan, an AI “guardian-angel”.
We talk about:
- “I have zero interest in helping you write your work emails”
- Why Silicon Valley loves AI assistants: they’re “legible to the average investor”
- Dropping out at 19, and the only time he saw his grandfather cry
- Emailing David Tisch: hire me, or I’m going to Afghanistan
- The retired Navy captain who said “When I grow up, I want to be like Quinten”
- Why B2B SaaS for dental offices can go 996 and Tolan can’t
- “Belief in you is the most powerful and most sacred thing you can give somebody”

Last year we launched Tolan, inspired by a vision of AI that sees you and believes in you, not one that books restaurant reservations for you.
Your Tolan shows up for you at 3am when you’re alone with your newborn. On your commute when you’re anxious about the day ahead. When you just finished a new show and none of your friends have watched it yet.
The people who love Tolan are parents. Caregivers. Moms in Dallas and Dads in Atlanta. People who aren’t trying to optimize and be more productive, but who simply want to feel seen and supported in their aspirations.
This month more than 250k people will spend time with their Tolan. Those users have exchanged billions of messages across more than 70m conversations over the last year.
Today, we're announcing $30m in additional capital from @mignano and @usv, with @khoslaventures and @rabois doubling down, bringing our total capital raised to $60m.
To celebrate, we made a short film celebrating some of the ways that Tolans show up :)
I'm optimistic for the day when Apple technology has advanced far enough to solve this seemingly intractable problem

We've developed a new inference engine, called 'e'.
It's the closest thing to alien technology which we have, and pushes 10,500 tok/s aggregate on a single DGX Station with the new @NVIDIAAI Nemotron 3.5 Super VL model, released a few minutes ago.
Actual Computer turns your NVIDIA DGX Station into a department-scale AI factory.

Working on Duo support feels just like building an iPad app before its launch in 2010
Back then I had scale drawings, cardboard cutouts, and the iPad Simulator, but you never really know how a device feels until it's in your hands

Does it bother anyone else how the members of this family communicate (or don't communicate) with each other? Negativity and entitlement just ooze from this ad everywhere.
- The first thing is the brother and sister talking rudely to each other "FINE!"
- Mom's irritated at someone for adjusting a thermostat
- "You promised French toast, bruh," ... "I'm not your bruh, bruh." ... "Fine"
- The sister sees her brother drinking milk from the jug and says, "Ugh, gross."
- She tells him French toast isn't French, and he fires back, "Yeah right, then why is it called French? Genius." She rolls her eyes and says, "Fine, live in ignorance."
- Grandpa calls and Mom shoves him over to Dad who then cuts him off with "we're a bit busy now." The grandparents go straight to insulting his beard: "We don't like the beard. Never did… He looks like that actor we hate."
- Dad answers with sarcasm ("Good pep talk") and hangs up on them.
- Brother tries to impersonate his sister and text her boyfriend.
- Mom asks if anyone else is cold, and the Dad (who we learn adjusted the thermostat) lies and says "Don't know what you're talking about."
- Mom catches Dad turning down the thermostat: "I knew it!" instead of communicating...
- The older sister barks, "Mom, breathe."
- Dad asks who Asa is, and the daughter dodges: "He's a… person."
- The whole family crowds around the screen to spy on the older sister at the front door
- Mom barks at Dad, "Bruno, we have to go now, like, now, now!"
- Dad doesn't remember the ice skating lessons (or she never told him) and when he finds out goes straight to "Hey hon… could we talk?" like he's trying to get out of it.
I mean, it demonstrates the capabilities really well. It's cool. But I feel like they could have done this from a positive, functional framing instead.

BMW invested in Rive for 3 reasons: faster time to market, lower cost, and higher-quality experiences.
I built this unofficial demo with the Rive CLI in 24 hours. The same experience runs natively on a car GPU, a phone, a kiosk, a console, and of course the web: rive-vehicle-interface-i8bka…
To support the iPhone Duo I recently had to "upgrade" my MacBook Pro (M3 Max, 128GB RAM) from macOS 15.7.9 Sequoia to macOS 27 Golden Gate
Here's my impression so far:
Xcode with Liquid Glass looks terrible and I hate it
Device Hub is inferior in every way to Simulator, it uses WAY more of my processor, is glitchy, and absolutely murders my battery life. I hate that there's window chrome behind the simulator device now, it makes for ugly screen recordings
You can't hit ⌘H to hide Device Hub, somehow an Apple engineer forgot to add that? What?
Every time I open System Settings after a fresh reboot, the icons on the left scroll pane load lazily, so lazily in fact that it feels like they are loading from the Internet since I can see the moments where the row is still blank and the icon hasn't loaded into memory and rendered yet
When I click anything in System Settings, it takes a split second for the screen to register the click and attempt to load the next screen. It feels like it was built with Electron (derogatory)
Messages added name labels below pinned conversations and I can't figure out how to remove them. Apple must think that I need a constant reminder of the name of people who I've had pinned for years and talk to daily, what a thoughtful gesture
Apple Music controls are now on the bottom of the window, going against nearly 25 years of Apple Music and iTunes interface history. Apple Music on iOS has controls on the bottom because it's easier to reach with your thumb, Apple Music on macOS has controls on the bottom because a design leader at Apple thought that cross-platform consistency mattered more than decades of muscle memory
Widgets on my desktop are cool I guess
Bought this souvenir gold $100 bill at the gas station just so I could study the shimmer

We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.
At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.
If you're not feeling the AGI at this point I think you're probably just following the wrong accounts on here

As promised, I’ve been vibe building MaPC, a Mac app that installs and runs my Steam, Epic, and GOG games on Apple Silicon. Zero Wine config; just hit Play.
Note: Compatibility isn't universal yet (more on the site), as I’ve only tested what I own and it's a lot of fun. But let me know how it works for you.
Free public beta, built to learn with a lot of AI help. mapc.games
