India’s most celebrated leading lady walked into a luxury hotel suite to discuss a film shoot—only to be brutally beaten by an actor-director and his wife in front of high-society guests, leaving her with permanent physical scars.
The reason might surprise you.
By 1979, Zeenat Aman had redefined modern Indian cinema. With landmark hits like Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and Don, she was an unstoppable cinematic icon and trendsetter.
Behind the flashbulbs, she entered into a fiercely guarded, tumultuous relationship with actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan during the making of his ambitious period drama, Abdullah.
Khan was already married to interior designer Zarine Katrak, with four children. Despite the complicated setup, the two grew deeply involved, with reports of a secret nikah ceremony in Jaisalmer in 1978.
Then came November 1979.
While shooting in Lonavala for another film, Zeenat received word that Sanjay Khan was furious with her over shooting dates and schedule clashes for Abdullah.
Wanting to clear the air, settle the production dates, and mend the relationship, Zeenat drove straight back to Mumbai to meet him.
She arrived at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Colaba, where Sanjay and Zarine Khan were attending a private party in a suite:
The moment Zeenat entered the room, the confrontation turned violent.
Sanjay Khan reportedly dragged her into an adjoining room. In an uncontrollable fit of rage, he physically assaulted her, striking her repeatedly across the face and thrashing her against the floor.
Eyewitness accounts documented in film magazines like Stardust and verified by senior journalist Devyani Chaubal revealed that Zarine Khan joined in, cheering the assault as high-society party guests stood by in paralyzed silence.
Hotel staff eventually intervened, finding Zeenat battered, bleeding, and collapsed on the carpet before helping her to a car.
The assault caused catastrophic damage:
Zeenat suffered severe facial trauma, including a detached retina and fractured sinus bones.
Despite multiple reconstructive eye surgeries in the following months, the attack left her with permanent ptosis (a drooping right eyelid)—an injury she carried across the rest of her film career.
The aftermath reflected the grim gender politics of 1970s Bollywood:
Out of loyalty, fear of a prolonged scandal, and emotional shock, Zeenat did not file a formal police FIR against Sanjay Khan.
The film industry largely looked the other way, while tabloids sensationalized her trauma.
Sanjay Khan spent subsequent decades downplaying the brutality in his memoirs and public interviews, claiming her eye condition was a hereditary defect—a claim widely rejected by journalists, doctors, and eyewitnesses who were at the Taj that night.

A narrative is being set that it was because of protesters that shopkeepers are forced to shut their shops. But local journalists covering the protest say, Protestors, scores of them were buying stuff from local shops. It was the police that asked the shopkeepers to shut down their shops for “some time.” This was at Mandi House yesterday.

This is a classic instance of governance by anarchy ! First commit illegality on a massive scale and then struggle to undo the illegality.
As the Election Commission launches a special drive in 20 states to bring back voters “left out” in the SIR, its officers are staring at a unique problem: persuading lakhs, possibly crores, of people to fill Form 6, the “Application Form for New Voters,” which asks them to declare they are applying “for the first time.”
Form 6 is the right route back, and officials say signing it invites no legal action. But people who’ve voted for decades balk at calling themselves new, and many believe the declaration is false.
Against that backdrop, Maharashtra’s CEO has proposed a fix: drop “New Voters” from the title, and let the deleted say they were enrolled before and cite their old EPIC number.

Imagine if Modi Shah & Gyanesh type had come to rule in india in 1947 . There would have been no govt schools , colleges , Universities, AIIMS , IITs . PSUs , No regular armies. Instead of Police Private rss goons would have been maintaining law & order.
People couldn't understand what was happening to them..then the fear of ED ,CBI and other government institutions has deterred the people further.. Kudos to Gen Z who could raise their voice and slowly everyone is coming out of that grip of fear..

Who is Vishnu Deo Sai? The BJP Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, who received free education at a Catholic missionary school without converting to Christianity.
The missionaries educated him without demanding conversion. Today, Christians and their schools face suspicion and accusations of conversion under his watch.
He benefited from their education. Where is his gratitude? Or does he remember the missionaries only when it suits his politics?
Btw, He did convert to become what he is today thanks to the missionaries.

The same crowd that shows up at convents to intimidate nuns, wave flags, and lecture them about "conversion" is the same crowd that would crawl over broken glass to get its child into a convent school.
Ask them one simple question: Did the nuns come to your home and force you to take admission?
No. They did not. There is no gun to your head. No lathi at your door. No coercion. You went to them. You filled the form. You stood in line at 5 a.m. You paid the fees. You told everyone your child studies in a "convent." And you were proud of it.
The school is "missionary" and "foreign" but it is the best school in town.
The nuns are "converting your kids" but your kid has been there eight years and you have not noticed a single conversion.
They should "go back" or "know their place" but you would cry if they actually shut the gates.
The truth is simple and uncomfortable. These institutions outperformed on education, discipline, honesty, and results for generations, while doing it quietly, cheaply, and without a political machine behind them. That is exactly why they are being targeted. Not because they failed. Because they succeeded and will not bow. If the convent is truly that bad, the exit is right there. Pull your kid out. Enrol him in the alternative you claim is superior. Nobody is stopping you.#ConventSchools #Conversion #Christianity

June 20, 1942. A car pulls up to the main gate of Auschwitz.
Inside are four men in SS uniforms. The guard doesn't raise the barrier fast enough, so the officer in the passenger seat leans out and screams at him in German to open the damn gate.
The guard snaps to attention and lets them through.
None of them were SS. All four were prisoners. And they had just stolen the car right out of the camp.
The man who yelled at the guard was Kazimierz Piechowski, prisoner number 918. He had been in Auschwitz for two years, since the camp's very first months, when it held mostly Polish political prisoners. He was 22.
His friend Eugeniusz Bendera, a mechanic working in the camp garage, came to him with news. His name was on a list to be executed. He wanted out. He knew where the SS kept their cars. And he could drive.
Piechowski knew something too. Because of his work assignment, he knew there was a storeroom full of SS uniforms and weapons.
So they planned the impossible.
They recruited two more men, a Polish army officer named Stanisław Jaster and a priest named Józef Lempart. On a quiet Saturday, when fewer guards were around, the four of them pushed a cart full of trash out through the camp gate. The one with the words Arbeit Macht Frei over it. To the guards, they looked like just another work detail.
Once outside the inner fence, they slipped into the building with the storeroom. Piechowski climbed in through a coal chute, unlocked the door, and they grabbed SS uniforms, pistols, and grenades.
Bendera went to the garage and took one of the best cars on site, a Steyr reportedly used by the camp commandant himself, Rudolf Höss.
Then they drove calmly through the camp toward the exit.
As they got closer to the final gate, the barrier stayed down. Nobody moved. Seconds felt like hours. The men in the back were sure they'd been caught.
Then Piechowski leaned out the window and shouted at the guard like an angry SS officer.
The barrier went up.
They drove away and ditched the car later. All four escaped.
The Germans were humiliated. Some of the escapees' families paid a terrible price. Jaster's parents were sent to Auschwitz and died there.
But here's the twist. Stanisław Jaster wasn't just escaping. He was carrying something out. A report from inside the camp, written by Witold Pilecki, the man who volunteered to go into Auschwitz to expose it.
Piechowski joined the Polish resistance and kept fighting. When the war ended, communist Poland arrested him for having served in the Home Army and sent him to prison for years.
He lived to 98 and spent his later years telling his story.
A prisoner who spent two years in Auschwitz walked out through the front gate yelling at the guards. In the commandant's car.

You gotta admire how Neha framed their detention, not as an ordeal they went through, but as a systemic flaw. It isn't "this is what they did to me" but "this is how they treat common citizens everyday".
