Generation Rent is a generation that has stood up & achieved massive social change on Marriage Equality,Repeal,& mental health. Now are standing up for their most basic of needs–a secure affordable home to rent or buy. Its breaking point in #HousingCrisis

Ultimately it’s the high rents that funds can get that makes Ireland most attractive...Government did nothing to address that & so they'll continue to roll in, lock you out of affordable homes & lock you into permanently unaffordable rents #HousingCrisis

If they were serious about affordable homeownership they would direct NAMA to sell all its remaining units at actually affordable prices to home buyers & fast-track the building of 60,000 homes in three years – that would be a supply #HousingCrisis

If you can't afford to buy or even rent a home in Ireland, as @RoryHearne explains, it's because the govt has done everything possible since 2011 to inflate house prices and rents so as to attract global property funds to invest in housing here, essentially at our expense ...
Excellent, detailed and well-researched article Dr Rory Hearne, showing that the Government does not want people to be able to afford to buy a home. That might seem strange, but read the evidence. (via @thejournal_ie) jrnl.ie/5428746

Nearly half of the apartments in the Capital Dock 190 apartment build-to-rent tower are vacant plus its social housing allocation is 4 miles away in Rialto. My graphic shows the 4-mile journey highlighting acres of vacant sites and 3,573 entire houses on #Airbnb.

Another heart breaking story resulting from a #HousingCrisis caused by Government policy that has refused to build social or affordable housing on scale or freeze rents & supports investor funds. Don't be silenced or ashamed any longer-share your story & lets #Endhousingcrisis

This can be the turning point in ending the housing crisis. The public are no longer tolerating or accepting it. In just over a week 25,000 people signed our petition thats being emailed tonight to Cabinet & all TDs. We must #Endhousingcrisis & make #HomeAHumanRight for everyone

I hear the government and state are out spinning that these Maynooth homes were "forward financed" by funds. We already debunked this claim.
The timelines don't add up. Urbeo was set up in Dec 2018. These homes were already under construction before the fund was even founded
The Irish state invested in a so-called cuckoo fund that has bulk-bought hundreds of homes in two Maynooth housing estates.
€225m of state funding that aimed to stimulate housing supply ultimately used by funds to buy up homes before they hit the market
