Amid the recent alleged severe ill-treatment of a Kosovo Serb by members of the Kosovo Police in northern Kosovo, a new development is unfolding in court regarding the demolition of Serbian properties around Gazivode Lake. The key question remains: can the police carry out demolitions without a judicial order, and without the company that claims ownership of the land admitting responsibility? On 30 July 2026 the motel/hotel “Jezero” on the shore of Lake Gazivode, owned by the Jakšić family from Zubin Potok, was completely demolished. Heavy machinery arrived in the early morning, escorted by Kosovo Police (family members reported special units with long guns entering the premises). This was the 17th structure removed around Gazivode in recent weeks as part of a broader action by public company Ibar-Lepenac, which claims the land is public property and the buildings were built without permits. Key problem: Just days earlier the Jakšić family had filed a lawsuit against Ibar-Lepenac and requested a temporary court measure to freeze the situation until ownership was resolved. A hearing was already scheduled for 12 August. The demolition went ahead anyway. Today, at the first court hearing, representatives of Ibar-Lepenac stated they DID NOT carry out the demolition.
