The Trump admin is poised to gut regulations on methane, a potent greenhouse gas. This is exactly what the oil & gas industry has been asking for.
@dylanbaddour reports for @insideclimate: insideclimatenews.org/news/2…
“EPA is giving oil and gas corps exactly what they’ve long wanted, a toothless methane standard they can use to pretend they’re well-regulated, all while they continue to knowingly leak & flare dangerous amounts of the heat-trapping gas.” — FN's Julia Kane

EPA is about to gut methane regulations, the result of “a coordinated industry strategy in which fossil fuel groups maneuvered behind the scenes to avoid regulatory accountability.”

Replying to @exxonmobil
@exxonmobil is one of the forces behind the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (HR 7502), a federal bill that would unfortunately codify and expand so-called “chemical recycling” across the US, according to excellent investigative journalism from @JoshVoorhees at @fldnotes_.
We recommend reading the full article, but here are the top takeaways:
“ExxonMobil is waging a sophisticated campaign of misdirection to weaken regulations on the processing of plastic waste into new industrial feedstocks and fuels, confidential documents obtained by Fieldnotes reveal.
In the past two years, the oil giant has:
-concealed its work behind a new industry front group, the Recycling Leadership Council;
-quietly enlisted the support of some of the world’s largest companies—including via an apparent quid pro quo with major pesticide manufacturers; and
-obscured its intent with legislative sleight of hand in a bill it ‘[d]eveloped and championed.’”
Corporations must reduce the amount of plastic they create, not weaken existing regulations.

New: The Environmental Protection Agency is finalizing a rule that’ll drastically weaken restrictions on “stripper wells,” which tend to be old, poorly maintained and prone to leaking methane, the highly potent greenhouse gas. propub.li/4AdslbE
