the boxes from the new update are only on the switch 2 version of the game
it literally looks like your cheating from a Switch 1 POV
Normally certain map objects are disabled in online play for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. With the introduction of v4.0.0, the switch 2 version seems to enable previously disabled map objects. This gives switch 1 players a slight advantage online.

Super proud to announce that I helped out with the soundtrack for CTGP Deluxe, a mod for Mario Kart 8 that adds a bunch of new tracks to the game!
I played guitar and arranged a few of the songs. The ones that I arranged will be going up on my channel over the next few hours!
