people in academia are way too negative about chatGPT, LLMs, etc.. why are folks so allergic to machine learning?

Here’s my 5 takeaways after a month as an industry scientist: 1. Communication skills are vastly underrated. 2. Academia could really benefit from code review. Yes it requires time and dedication, but it’s a great way to learn from others and check for mistakes.

3. Reproducibility and version control are everything. See #2. 4. Meetings should always be scheduled in 30 min blocks rather than 1 hr and should have an explicit, timed agenda.

5. Everyone should use something like scheduling assistant in Teams/Calendly/Google Appointment Scheduler to schedule meetings. The traditional email chain to schedule meetings is inefficient and a waste of time.
