Wake me up when January ends. A look at the Irish Poker Tour and its prospects in 2025. By Jerry Fitzgerald. It’s been a busy year. And it’s only February . We’ve had Christmas. We’ve had a storm for the ages. January feels like it’s never going to end! Thank god for poker. We have an International stop on the way. The Alea Casino in Glasgow will host the Glasgow Poker Festival in March. Any time the tour goes to new territories it’s always exciting .And we’re all going to be there. As is Big Mick G. He, along with Mr Keith Touhey secured packages at the Munster Poker Festival as winners of the Glasgow last longer promotion. Some new faces of the tour will be there too. Speaking of new faces to the tour I wonder what 2025 will bring in terms of breakout performances . In 2023 we had the emergence of IPT ambassador Darren Harbinson while Paul Carr dominated the league before completing a historic double. 2024 brought Hugh Smyth 11,000 kilometers around the country leaving with the bracelet and the number 1 ranked spot! An incredible feat in anyone’s book. But among the tours top players has always been a contender or two who threatens to break through. Steven Bartley comes to mind. Making a genuine claim for the leaderboard in 2024 if even for a short time. It always brings a competitive buzz to the leaderboard to see your Shane Keary’s or your Storkys come in and shake things up. It’s keeps us guessing! So who could it be for 2025? Here are some of my picks to have a big year. Killian Farrell. Nice guys don’t always finish last. But this one had a series of second place finishes before picking up his first IPT trophy . Hence the “Crossbar”. Killian is one of those players to watch out for in 2025. Steven Lee Another from the Antrim Sports Club Stevie Lee has upped his game and put in the work according to Rinty Monaghan “Hes done everything but win a trophy” There is one available shelf left in the Antrim sports club reportedly reserved for Stevie Lee’s trophy. Another one to watch for 25. Mary Galvin No stranger to big pressure moments Mary Galvin has had an impressive set of results of late. She cashed the Main event at the Munster Poker Festival after her 5th place finish in the Main event at Galway 2025. Mary’s AK ran into Marks Buckley’s AA but a great run all the same. We will see Mary in around the big prizes again before too long. Liam Rushe Predominately an online player Liam graced the live felt for the first time last year. And he has shown impressive results finishing 4th In Claremorris €20k in a day before getting his hands on his first IPT trophy(NLH) at €25K in a day. No doubt we will see Liam on a few final tables in 2025. Adrian Creagh Hitting the Crossbar by finishing second at the Munster Poker Festival Fast Fling turbo, Mr Creagh is getting close to that all important IPT trophy. It’s on the way surely for Adrian! Let’s get one home for 25! Mark Finnane . We’ve seen more of Mark Finnane on the tour in 24. And the man’s Omaha skills are not too shabby. He’s picked up big results in Galway and The Munster Poker Festival and is another to watch out for in the PLO side of affairs! Let see by year’s end how many of the above will sit inside the top 16 of our Paddy Power Leaderboard. Please know in the comments who you think would be a great addition to the list.
