I thought I knew everything there was to know about "subway vigilante" Bernhard Goetz and the shooting that rocked 1980s NYC, but then I listened to the first episode of the new season of Fiasco. Highly, highly recommended:

RIP Bill Russell – Boston’s greatest champion and one of its fiercest critics. In June of 1963, Russell took part in one of the first mass civil rights demonstrations in the North. (1/7)
Russell didn’t back down. He called Boston a “flea market of racism” and leant his voice to many more protests throughout his career. Along the way, he won six more championships, for a total of 11. The GOAT. (6/7)
To hear the whole story of the Stay Out for Freedom protests, check out season 3 of FIASCO, on the desegregation of Boston's public schools, aka "the Boston busing crisis." Available here, just scroll down past the Benghazi season: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
in today's episode of WHIRLWIND, host TIM WEINER (@Folly_and_Glory) tells the story of the CIA's first big foray into election interference, in which american intelligence swung the '48 election in italy — with a little help from the vatican and the mafia

As an unprecedented health crisis threatens to worsen the inequality in the American educational system, there’s no better time for a podcast like “Fiasco,” which returns to the events that set the template for talking about race and policy in public. bit.ly/3kKAmxN

"Speaking with key Black activists who launched the campaign to desegregate the city’s schools. Neyfakh’s work exposes pages in the history books that were often omitted from print." - @Interviewmag (✏️: Ruben Baghdasaryan)
Bryant Rollins was one of two Black reporters at the Boston Globe when MLK visited the city in 1965. Rollins covered King's march on Boston Common. After filing his story, he was called into his editor's office and confronted with a photograph. From the upcoming season of Fiasco:
