Italy is basically a third world country with a failing economy, aging population and crazy taxes Rome is all this multiplied by terrible accommodations, overtourism, and complete lack of proper coffeeshops with good coffee, wifi and laptop places (ironic given Italy was one of the pioneers of coffee in Europe) but man the amount of culture and history is so insane here i would move to this city in a blink of an eye and i don’t even mention the amazing food (although probably too much carbs), friendly and open people (complete opposite of Switzerland/Germany), beautiful language and amazing climate (i’m wearing a shirt in November!) Italy has such a crazy cultural capital, so sad the italian government is not using and abusing it to attract expats and businesses i am convinced a proper nomad visa program + lower taxes and social contributions for expats would bring its economy to the top of europe in a couple of years

my spidey senses are telling me the labs are, as we speak, using unguardrailed versions of their unreleased models to systematically reverse-engineer ALL of the internet’s software, apps, and games, then feeding the reconstructed source code straight into their training pipelines while simultaneously building guardrails to ladder-pull the rest of us

All my suicidal thoughts stem from two points The first is that I don't see a future for myself The second is that, whatever the realistic options for the future are, I don't want any of them and I won't be happy with any of them

the worst part is how easily a few bad months can become a few bad years, and how quietly those years can become a lifetime, and the cruelest part is that you may never have had control over any of it

you have to try or you’ll be stuck in a vicious circle of what ifs, never doing anything & eternal regret. life doesn’t stop until you die & every new second is a new opportunity. if life can change for the worst in one second, why can’t it also change for the best in one second?
Trying to start living in your late 20s is such a humiliation ritual. Kids half my age experienced more than I have, and have more skills than I do... I just can't believe it is feasible for me to ever catch up and live an actual life.

1. CRISPR came from basic research on bacteria. 2. Optogenetics started with a discovery in algae. 3. The GFP protein comes from jellyfish. The biggest breakthroughs all trace to scientists follow their curiosity. This is one huge reason why we must keep funding basic research!
