This is hilarious, because BOTH marriage AND divorce generally financially benefit men, but not women, or harm them a lot less than women are harmed. Men get a "marriage bonus" of higher wages and career advancement. Women do not. If they have kids, they pay the "motherhood penalty" and their earning potential goes down in comparison to single and childless women. During a divorce, the average man does take a hit of 20-30%, but generally financially recovers within a couple of years. If the divorced man is a high-earner with a partner that makes much less or his partner is unemployed, or he gets very little custody, then he benefits from divorce, often substantially. Child support and alimony are nearly never punitively high enough to exceed what he would be paying to support another adult and/or children in his own home. On the other hand, women take a 40-50% financial hit from divorce and almost NEVER recover. While her individual earnings can actually trend up slightly because she may have to increase her work hours out of necessity, the bump is rarely enough to offset the loss of a second income, the cost of independent housing, and a compounding hit to retirement and SS benefits. Child support might be inconsistent, and it is never enough to make up for the time she has to take off if she's the primary custodial parent. Basically, the financial cost of children are imposed nearly ENTIRELY on women, married, single, or divorced. Marriage itself, including divorce, benefits men more than women. This is supported by decades of data that track health, career, earnings, and overall emotional well-being.
