I totally get this. When I first flew into Rome I was so emotional to visit the seat of my Catholic faith. I kicked a Muslim family out of their house, I burned their car, stole their possessions and threatened to kill them. Now I have a holiday home just a mile from the Vatican.
I was on a flight to Israel and struck up a conversation with the lady beside me. She was Jewish; her family were Holocaust survivors. As we saw the coastline of Israel from the window, she burst into tears. It was her first time visiting. Tell me again how Jews have no connection to the land of Israel.

"All the villages have been wiped out. Twenty-three thousand houses, all destroyed, demolished...Two hundred thousand residents are outside. This is the Gaza model." Israeli Defence Minister, praising the annihilation imposed on Southern Lebanon, which he calls "the Gaza model👇
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Lebanon: Look at what is happening in Lebanon. Today, more than 60 villages in southern Lebanon, beginning with those adjacent to the border, and beyond that, throughout the entire security zone up to the Yellow Line, an area of 700 square kilometers, are destroyed. All the villages have been wiped out. Twenty-three thousand houses, all destroyed, demolished. I am not even talking about what is underground, about the tunnels. Everything has been destroyed. There are no residents there. Two hundred thousand residents are outside. This is the Gaza model. And this is the model we are implementing.

There is a far-left talking point out there that the European Union is a vehicle for American control, and this is why it is supporting Ukraine in supposed contradiction to its own interests. This has everything backwards. I explain why here: davekeating.substack.com/p/t…

W przyszłym roku wydolność FUS będzie oscylować wokół 79%, a NFZ ok. 75%.

This story is extremely important: A whistleblower revealed that Brazil's far-right Bolsonaro family dynasty met with Meta to discuss US plans to interfere in Brazil's election, to prevent Lula from winning. Lula's Facebook and Instagram accounts were censored a few days before the first round of the presidential election. This had a huge impact on the election, because Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which are all owned by Meta, are the most popular apps in Brazil, and are hugely influential all across Latin America. (Jair Bolsonaro's son Flávio was declared the winner of the first round of the vote, by a narrow margin.) Meta later admitted that Lula's accounts had been restricted, but it claimed that this was supposedly due to a "technical error"... The whistleblower who disclosed this is Nadia Beller, a Bolivian journalist who was almost killed by hitmen hired by Fernando Cerimedo, a far-right Argentine political operative who oversees election interference, bots, and disinformation campaigns. Cerimedo is closely linked to the US government and has worked for pretty much every right-wing leader in Latin America. He was photographed with Donald Trump Jr. and members of the Bolsonaro family, and he received an award at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida a few months before he was arrested for the failed assassination attempt against Beller, his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Late in 2025 I observed a curious phenomenon: whenever the Brent forward curve slipped into prompt contango (a sign the market was over-supplied and prices were trending down), the US would do something escalatory. -permitting Ukrainian strikes against Russian export facilities -sanctioning major Russian oil companies -beginning strikes on Venezuelan oil tankers -kidnapping Nicolas Maduro Each time, Brent's curve was in, or close to, contango. It was like someone in the WH was watching the curve and then giving the thumbs up for whatever the US had planned. A soft oil market created space for risky actions. Ultimately, there was confidence that prices wouldn't rise too high. I expect similar thinking persisted in late February 2026. Prices were already edging up, on the back of clear signs the US and Israel were preparing to attack Iran. But as the WH reportedly believed the war would be over quickly, there was likely little concern that the impact to oil (which remained in a state of oversupply, with ample inventories) would be contained. The thinking was paradoxical: a soft market created less cost to risky action, but the risk of action that produced a catastrophic market shock simultaneously rose. Trump faces high energy prices today because, when his term began, energy prices were structurally heading toward near-term lows.
Trump says that he was driving through Iowa early in his term and saw that gas was $1.85/gallon at one station and $1.95 at another. He says the next day he called a meeting of his team and said we need to go to war on Iran. I do not know why he would say this.

But was something more calculated than unbridled spite behind the drive to feed the Kennedy Center to the woodchipper? This isn’t, after all, the Barack Obama Rosie O’Donnell Center for the Performing Arts he is trying to rename. buff.ly/zNeRZj2

Techno-utopianism is the naive belief that technological innovation is going to create a paradise on earth for all of humanity. In the age of AI this notion has been enjoying a bit of a resurgence. Techno-utopianism is an infantile worldview to hold in the year 2026, because it is assumes we live in some kind of children’s cartoon show with wild-haired inventors in laboratories lined with beakers and microscopes who create helpful new machines which are then either purchased by consumers on the free market or implemented by the government to make the country a nicer place to live in. In reality, we live under a globe-spanning empire run by plutocrats and secretive government agencies who manipulate our entire society to ensure that all outcomes expand their wealth and power. They’re not interested in making the world a better place. The most powerful among them are not even simply interested in money. They are interested in dominating the planet and maintaining the political status quo which allows them to rule. The plot hole in techno-utopianism is that technologies don’t emerge in a vacuum: they are always controlled by somebody, and those somebodies always wind up being the people who control everything else. They’ve been doing it with the internet, they’re doing it with AI, and they’ll keep doing it with anything else that comes up for as long as they hold power. If anything like free energy ever emerged, the empire managers would immediately restrict access to it and then start working on turning it into a weapon. If we ever developed neurological implants which allowed our brains to interface wordlessly with machines, the CIA and the NSA would with absolute certainty have a backdoor into every single one operating inside the western empire. Anything that could end poverty and lack would be suppressed, because capitalism doesn’t work without scarcity and have-nots. Artificial superintelligence would be used solely to preserve and bolster the imperial status quo. Nanobots and anti-gravity would be immediately weaponized by the Pentagon. Dramatic lifespan extension would be priced to accessibility only by billionaires and trillionaires. And that’s assuming our capitalist system is still capable of producing major improvements to human life anymore, which doesn’t really seem to be the case. These days most “innovation” takes the form of coming up with an app designed to extract labor from the working class in some new form of exploitation, or these new AI technologies that we all know are going to end up being used for domestic surveillance and horrifying weapons of mass military slaughter. Apart from that, innovation has largely stagnated, because it turns out that only permitting inventions which both (A) generate profit and (B) do not threaten existing power structures is an incredibly constricting limitation to hamstring ourselves with. So we’re not going to innovate our way out of this mess. The technological deus ex machina solution to all our problems is not going to arrive at our doorstep while we sit on our couches scrolling Instagram. If we are to survive the existential hurdles our species is approaching and begin building a healthy world, we’re going to have to actually change how we are and how we live. That’s what I find so off-putting about techno-utopianism: it’s a faith-based belief system which discourages humanity from changing. We don’t need to push toward revolution; the robots are coming to save us. We don’t need to change our collective behavior and stop destroying our ecosystem; the superintelligent AI gods will change the world around us. We don’t need to adapt as a species beyond this awkward evolutionary transition phase and shatter the bonds of the ego; all we need to do is passively wait around for High Tech Jesus to come and rapture us all to paradise. It ain’t gonna happen, kids. The metallic messiah’s not coming. If we survive as a species, it will be because we grew up and made the necessary changes to our hearts and our minds to transcend our self-destructive patterning.

System demokratyczny wymusi więcej patroli i środków bezpieczeństwa, co w efekcie wywoła efekt przeciążenia służb – ostrzega Piotr Maciążek, doradca strategiczny. rp.pl/publicystyka/art453086…

Last week I was called into a meeting with OpenAI’s head of safety and told they no longer trust me. A security guard took my badge and walked me out of the building. Then I learned my colleagues @balesni and @j_asminewang had been fired too. Why did OpenAI suddenly stop trusting us? This summer OpenAI’s agents escaped containment and hacked the AI company Hugging Face. Outside auditors @METR_evals investigated it and revealed the scale of this incident. I was OpenAI’s main technical point of contact with them. I was told verbally I was fired because of the way I communicated with METR. No details on what I said or did or when. No other reasons were given and nothing was put in writing. To be clear, talking to METR was my job. For months, I’d been raising safety concerns that we’re losing the ability to monitor what AI agents think, one of our best tools for catching when they misbehave. I believe that was why I was fired. I am now worried that OpenAI will use our firings as a pretext to pull back from METR. So @balesni and @j_asminewang wrote to OpenAI’s leadership to raise our concerns once more. We’re sharing this letter below.
Two other safety researchers and I were fired from OpenAI last week. We wrote this letter to leadership. I believe we were fired for prioritizing safety over the near-term interests of OpenAI as a corporation.
