Time for some College Baseball charts! Starting with LSU’s run to the national championship. They had a solid regular season, slightly led by their pitching. Struggled early in the tourney, but their hitting put them back on track until a slip up in game 1 vs CCU.

New week, new top tier of this week's simulated BCS. Miami, Ohio State and BYU break away while last week’s top two slide to Nos. 4 and 5 after a chaotic week:

In College Football, the difference between 1 and 24 is ~20 points. In the NFL the difference between 1 and 32 is ~15 points. There is more variability in the CFB game. But variability is why there should be a smaller playoff.
"Expanding the playoffs to 24 teams means that now 17% of college football teams will make the playoffs. In the NFL it's 44% and yet it's never killed our interest in the regular season." @colincowherd doesn't buy that a 24-team playoff will kill college football

- No one will win a conference championship game - No one will win a Bowl game with a shred of significance or history - 1 team will survive a 16 or 17-game marathon and get a trophy - Fans will be priced out by rosters/coach costs and almost no one will feel like a winner
The 24-team College Football Playoff likely eliminates conference championships, @PeteNakos reports❌ on3.com/news/how-would-expan…

The 20th BEST (think power rating) team making the playoffs instead of a bowl is probably good for them and their fans. But here’s the problem, and maybe I can run the numbers later (or I can trust AI):

The 4th best team, who drops the ball and loses to #1, #5, and #15, goes 9-3 with a best win vs #20. They are still one of the championship favorites.

Blowing up the regular season, against the wishes of almost all fans, just to assuage the egos of a handful of donors placate coaches worried about losing their 8-million-dollar jobs. What a waste.

This is so bad
Sources: The College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand to 24 teams, per sources. The new format will start in 2027 and is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.

This might sound crazy. But solve all the issues with a 20 Team Playoff. Effectively a 16 team playoff (so the P4 still gets 4x what we had before) plus 4 “play-in” games like we have for March Madness.
🚨 Some interesting news we've heard behind the scenes... A source tells us that conference leadership has told coaches to prepare for an eventual 24-team College Football Playoff with ONE guaranteed spot for the G6. ‼️The expectation is that the remaining G6 teams would eventually have their own separate playoff.‼️ No official announcement yet, but sounds like this is something conferences are already preparing for. 👀 How would you feel about a separate playoff along with one guaranteed spot in the CFP?

For the G6: All conference champs get in. At least to the play-in. For P5: Potentially 14 teams (4 more than last year) Likely only 3 G6 after the play-in (only 1 more than last year) For networks: 5 weeks of playoffs. Can put play-ins on a weekday if NFL is an issue.

There were just 2 ranked non-conference games in September. It showed up in the TV ratings. This has happened every time the BCS/CFP has expanded. And now they're trying to double the size. Free column: nytimes.com/athletic/7650501…

Refs can’t rule that UAB sack a fumble. The QB intended to throw it forward. That’s how it works right?
