I got paid in crypto. But then I couldnโt spend it.
My first crypto was about $10. I was so excited, until I realised I had no idea what to do with it.
It sat in my wallet for weeks.
Then months.
Meanwhile, my market woman was not going to collect dollars. I needed naira.
Then I found @Monica. I sent my crypto in, it turned into naira, and I withdrew straight to my bank. No stress, no begging anyone for a rate.
And it didnโt stop at conversion.
Now I buy airtime and data, pay bills, and spend online with a virtual Visa card, all from one app.
Making money is hard enough. Spending it shouldnโt be.

Having crypto but no naira for electricity bills, hospital emergencies, or international exam fees ?
Your money should be useful when you need it.
Monica helps you convert crypto to naira, pay bills, and make international payments, all in one place.

If youโve been following the @blockfestafrica x @Monicanigeria challenge, youโve probably seen Monica pop up a few times.
But you might still be wondering:
โOkayโฆ what can I actually do with Monica?โ
Quite a lot, actually. ๐
Letโs get into it ๐งต๐๐ฝ
Monica gives you a virtual dollar Visa card that you can use for global payments wherever Visa is accepted.
Subscriptions. Online services. Digital purchases. Global merchants.
You don't have to start stressing over how to make that international payment.
Because having money is one thing.
Being able to move it when you need to is another.
Thatโs what @Monicanigeria is about:
Making your money easier to move, use and spend. ๐

My BlockFest marketing series is already making people think differently about how they show up at events.
And I love to see it.
Day 7/15 of showing up right
@blockfestafrica
Over 5 person already reachd out asking for my thoughts on their strategies.
Iโve seen people take the ideas from this series and start thinking about how they can represent brands at BlockFest.
And that got me thinking about something brands should pay more attention to:
You don't always need to be physically everywhere. You can have the right people show up for you.
By leveraging creators.
Because creators are no longer just people brands send a brief to and hope for a few posts.
Creators can be your presence at the event.
They can help you:
โขCreators can be your presence at the event.
They can help you:
โขCreate awareness before the event
โข Represent your brand on-ground
โข Create content around the experience
โข Get people interacting with your product
โข Drive new users
โข Keep the conversation going after the event
You don't necessarily have to be everywhere yourself.
You can have the right people show up for you.
And this is one of the things Iโve been trying to highlight with my BlockFest marketing series.
Don't just ask, โHow do we get noticed at BlockFest?โ
Ask: "How do we turn that attention into awareness, acquisition, and retention?
If you're a brand planning to show up at BlockFest and you're looking for someone to represent you, create content around your presence, or help you build an on-ground activation that people will actually remember, I can help with that.
You don't always need another sponsorship package.
Sometimes, you just need the right strategy and the right people on the ground.
If you're looking to show up at BlockFest, send a dm, let's make sure you show up right.
Web3 projects need to start marketing in event bathrooms.
Day 7/15 of showing up right @blockfestafrica
Hear me out.
One of the complaint we saw from Token2049 was body/mouth odor.
The truth is in major events, these issues are likely to come up which makes them merch worthy.
At events like BlockFest, most brands will compete for attention through
<> booths,
<> sponsorships,
<> merch
<> social media.
Which means there's one place where you're likely to face significantly less competition: THE WASHROOM
Imagine walking into a BlockFest washroom and finding a small, beautifully designed station stocked with useful essentials:
โข Mints/mouth wash
โข Hand sanitiser
โข Deodorant
โข Stain-removal wipes
โข Hair ties
โข Period-care products
Each item can carry subtle brand placement, a short event-specific message and a QR code.
A wallet could put:
โYour wallet called. It wants better security.โ
A privacy project:
โSome things are better kept private.โ
A payments app:
โYou came to BlockFest. Don't leave your wallet behind.โ
The branding doesn't need to scream.
The usefulness is what gets people to remember it.
And unlike a giant billboard that people walk past, these are things attendees actually pick up, use, and potentially take with them.
You don't always need the biggest sponsorship package to create the most memorable activation.
Sometimes you just need to look at the event differently.
By turning everyday problems into marketing opportunities..
Tomorrow we to touch on another means to show up at events.

I am a web3 content creator and I earn in crypto.
But when itโs time to pay for the tools I actually use to create, Iโve to convert to fiat first.
Thatโs the part I wanted to change.
So I tried paying for ChatGPT with my @avici card, and it actually went through.
No crypto โ fiat โ card gymnastics.
Just crypto in my wallet, and a Visa card I can actually spend with.
Thatโs the kind of crypto utility I care about.
And if this is you, then you should try AVICI

Day 6/15 days to @blockfestafrica
One thing Iโve noticed from big Web3 events like Token2049 is how brands turn people and physical objects into moving billboards.
And honestly, you don't always need a booth to do this.
You could:
โ Put your brand on a ridiculously oversized backpack and have someone walk around with it.
โ Create a custom outfit that people instantly recognize from across the room.
โ Turn a suitcase into a branded activation people actually want to photograph.
โ Have someone walking around with a giant product prop.
โ Create an X/photo mirror where attendees interact with your brand and share the content.
โ Give creators or community members custom pieces to wear throughout the event.
โ Build merch people actually want to carry around, instead of another T-shirt that ends up in someone's drawer.
The goal isn't just โput our logo somewhere.โ
It's to make your brand part of the physical experience of the event.
Think about it.
People are already walking around BlockFest.
They're already taking pictures.
They're already collecting merch.
They're already looking for something interesting to post.
So instead of asking:
โHow do we get a booth?โ
Ask:
โHow can our brand become something people notice, interact with, photograph, or carry around?โ
That's how you show up at an event without necessarily having a booth.
And that giant backpack?
I'd absolutely do it.
The merch table can walk. ๐ญ
Tomorrow we talk about more subtle yet strategic way to show up at the event.
You can't always control where attention comes from, but you can control where you take it.
Day 4/15 series to @blockfestafrica
Yesterday, we saw the giveaway controversy around BlockFest convener @SamuelXeus and this got me thinking about marketing.
There were tweets, reactions, Spaces, and opinions flying around and a LOT of attention.
But here's the interesting part:
Heโd did keep that attention just around the controversy.
It was redirected back toward the event.
And whether the attention is positive or negative, there's a marketing lesson here:
Attention is attention. What you do with it matters.
Brands often think they need to manufacture a perfect moment to promote themselves.
You don't.
Sometimes something unexpected happens, and suddenly thousands of people are paying attention.
The question is:
Can you redirect that attention toward something meaningful?
A conversation โ your product.
A viral moment โ your campaign.
A controversy โ a bigger conversation.
A trending topic โ your event.
Of course, I'm not saying brands should manufacture controversy or exploit people's outrage.
I'm saying that when attention naturally comes your way, don't waste it.
Find the connection between what people are already talking about and what you want them to know about.
That's marketing.
And it's something projects can think about not just for BlockFest, but for any event, launch, or campaign.
Day 3 of 15 Days to BlockFest.
Next week, we'll get into the more practical side: how your project can actually show up at an event and get noticed without relying on a booth.

Next week, we'll get into the more practical side: how your project can actually show up at an event and get noticed without relying on a booth.
Making the most of an event starts before the D-day.
And with thousands of folks planning to attend @blockfestafrica
Here are 3 ways to get people talking about your project before the event
You might not be a sponsor, but you can partner with BlockFest, get a batch of tickets for your community, and turn them into a campaign.
For example:
โWe're heading to BlockFest, and we're giving 10 people tickets to join us.โ
You can run a simple giveaway, challenge, or community campaign around it.
Now your attendance becomes something people can participate in, not just an announcement.
And you're also creating a direct connection between your brand and the event. (seen a couple of brands doing this)
Creators are a good way to capture the event and make UGC and fun bits.
The best part is that You don't need one massive influencer.
Find 2โ5 creators who are actually relevant to your audience and give them a reason to participate.
They could:
โซannounce that your project is coming
โซ tease what you're bringing
โซ run a ticket giveaway with you
โซ wear your merch at the event
โซ interview attendees
โซ create an acquisition activation around your product.
The important thing is to start before the event.
You're essentially putting multiple people to work talking about your project before anyone walks through the doors.
Don't just tell people you're attending.
Give them something to do because you're attending.
For example:
โComplete this challenge before BlockFest and 10 winners get an exclusive experience when they arrive.โ
Or:
โFind our creators at BlockFest and complete the challenge to unlock X.โ
The campaign starts before the event but has a payoff at the event.
Now BlockFest becomes part of the campaign itself.
You don't need a booth or a sponsorship package to leverage an event.
You need to give people a reason to participate in your presence there.
