Postdoc bonanza at @AdmsCentre! Lots of projects focused on diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity in AI. Strongly encourage feminist STS, anticolonial, critical race, and critical data studies folks to apply. I had the most rewarding 3 years of my career in the centre✨

First Horizon reached out to say that after trialling the program, it decided not to adopt it. It was "tested, delayed based on feedback and the[n] ultimately not deployed." Either workers hated it enough for them to kill it, or backlash from all this bad PR did. Outrage works!

Last week, I read about one of the bleakest uses for gen AI I've seen yet: First Horizon Bank is rolling out a system to detect when a call center worker was on the brink of "losing it"—and play them an AI-made montage of family photos set to their favorite song to calm them down

So very proud of everybody involved in the @Umelb4Palestine actions. The University has agreed to disclose ALL partnership & funding ties. Rest assured, we will continue fighting for part 2: divestment ✊🍉

It’s been a week since protesters at the University of Melbourne begun their sit-in at the Arts West building, what they are now calling “Mahmoud’s Hall”.
Farrago journalist Mathilda Stewart reports on what has gone down at the sit-in over the last week.

BREAKING: @NTEUUniMelb health and safety representatives conduct OHS report in Mahmoud’s Hall and find the University’s statements to be groundless. The University of Melbourne are manufacturing occupational health and safety risks in order to justify removal of protestors.

At 8:07 this morning protesters participating in a sit-in in Arts West/Mahmoud’s hall were awoken by a message over the intercom notifying them that the building was unsafe, that they were trespassing, and were liable to be face academic sanctions and police intervention.

Michael Wesley just proving the protestors' point here. "The government says we should do this so we have to do it" is exactly the kind of erosion of university autonomy that critics of on-campus military research have long been talking about.

The students are always on our side sending a clear message to the uni.
In 20 years the uni will tokenize this movement as ‘proud history of student activism’ and not mention that they are going to send police in to brutalize students. @UniMelb we will never forget.
