Wait… is Rump just doing a poor Rodney impression?
The great Norm Macdonald (d. 2021) would have turned 67 today. A true comedian's comedian.
Macdonald never hid his admiration for the legendary Rodney Dangerfield, whom he called his comedy idol. In a 2011 interview, he fondly recalled Dangerfield's 1996 Weekend Update cameo on Saturday Night Live, describing it as one of the highlights of his time on the show. For Macdonald, sharing the desk with his hero was a dream come true.

This was so foreseeable (indeed my early prediction when ChatGPT came out) but a lot of tech people have a hard time understanding that the hypothetical enriching use of a tech loses out to the lazy corner cutting use 99.9% of the time theguardian.com/technology/2…

Freestyling is too frequently just somebody clearly stringing together previously rehearsed stanzas. But every Harry Mack video I watch leaves me stunned -- homeboy is just such a genial genius. Writing *while* rapping -- just insane.

Pachelbel's Canon in D gives the cello the same eight notes over and over, and Rob Paravonian, who got stuck playing them, has not gotten away from them since.
He counted the A coming around fifty four times, and he figures Pachelbel must have dated a cellist who dumped him.
He thought quitting the cello would end it. Then his stepnephew's eighth grade graduation played Vitamin C's "Graduation" and there they were again. He got in the car and Aerosmith's "Cryin'" was doing it too, so he switched to folk and got "One Tin Soldier."
After that he gave up fighting it and started naming them: Blues Traveler's "Hook," Green Day's "Basket Case," Matchbox Twenty's "Push," Better Than Ezra's "Good," Bush's "Machinehead," U2's "With or Without You," Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," Avril Lavigne's "Sk8er Boi," Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It," the Laverne and Shirley theme, Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry," and the Beatles' "Let It Be."
A wedding piece from about 1680 is sitting under a punk song and a sitcom theme. What did he leave out?

really wonderful
A wayward pianist (Dudley Moore) receives an unexpected visit from the Music Police (Peter Cook).
This sketch comes from Behind the Fridge, the stage show Peter Cook and Dudley Moore performed in the early 1970s in London's West End, on Broadway, and perhaps most successfully in Australia, where it was recorded for Channel 9 in Melbourne. The title was, of course, a playful nod to Beyond the Fringe.
Sadly, the show effectively marked the end of their original partnership, although they reunited a few years later for the Broadway revue Good Evening, followed by Derek and Clive, which was an entirely different beast altogether!
The sheer ingenuity of this sketch is astonishing. Weaving together the language of music, policing and motoring into something so consistently funny is an extraordinary piece of writing. While I can't say for certain, everything I've read suggests it was very much a collaborative effort between Cook and Moore.
My God, it's good.

Imagine posing for some embarrassing stock photo work just to make a few bucks. “These photos go into enormous databases,” they tell you. “No one will ever see them.” Then you wake up one random October day to find yourself as Sexually Transmitted Diarrhea Guy

typically great piece but this section in particular stopped me in my tracks
Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…
