Today is the #DecemberSolstice - the #WinterSolstice and #firstdayofwinter in the Northern Hemisphere, and the #SummerSolstice and #firstdayofsummer in the Southern Hemisphere! 🥳
Earth is now at the far right point (3 o'clock) in this animation of its yearly journey around the sun. The Northern Hemisphere is angled away from the sun, resulting in shorter daylight periods, while the Southern Hemisphere is angled toward to the sun and soaking up the rays with long, warmer days.
For those northerners longing for a little more vitamin D, there's nowhere to go but up: days will gradually get longer from now until June 20th, the first day of summer!
