#MCM: Celebrating Nyende Alex (@AlenzyArtss ), aka Grandmaster! 📷 A well-deserved win for our Content Creation and Communications Lead, Alenzy Arts , won at the 15th Uganda Press Photo Awards (@UPPAward ) 2026 in the Photojournalism category for his documentary project, “WHERE DO THEY GO?” Through his lens, Alex documents the human cost of the May 28 demolitions in Kawaala, Kampala, where families were displaced during an operation to restore sections of the Lubigi Wetland. At the heart of his work is a question that demands our attention: Where do people go when they lose their homes? His project reminds us that photography is more than capturing moments. It is about telling stories that matter, making invisible realities visible, and giving people a reason to pause and reflect. We celebrate Alex for this recognition and extend our appreciation to the FOTEA , @EUinUG , @FujifilmX_US and the @FESonline for supporting platforms that amplify powerful visual storytelling. Grandmaster, we celebrate you. Keep telling the stories that need to be told. Congratulations! 📷 #FacesUp #UPPA2026 #Photojournalism #StoriesThatMatter

Mutooza already knows what he wants to be when he grows up. At @abilityksph_Ug (KSPH), he used coloured threads to bring his dream a little closer, working carefully on his car, with Teacher Sarah helping when he needed it. What I loved most? He was so sure about his creation that he promised me a ride in it one day. For now, his car is made of thread. But the dream is entirely his. #FacesUp #artseducation

Some moments are too joyful to stay on paper. 💛 A little drawing, a little play, a lot of laughter, and before long, the art had found its way outdoors. At Uganda School for the Deaf, the joy of creating together carried into movement, playful moments and dancing. What began with art became an opportunity for learners to express themselves, interact and simply enjoy being in the moment. At Faces Up Uganda, we believe children need spaces where they can do more than create. They need room to explore, connect, play and express themselves freely. Because children's wellbeing is also found in these seemingly small moments: the freedom to participate, the joy of being together and the feeling that you belong. Sometimes, connection doesn't need many words. It simply needs room to happen. 💛 What are some of the little things we can do to help every child feel included, connected and free to be themselves? #FacesUp #ArtsEducation #ArtForWellbeing

Yesterday, we took a mental health break. 💛 Much of our work focuses on providing arts-based psychosocial support to children and young people. And while we understand how important it is to care for others, we also recognise the importance of caring for the people who make this work possible. Our team spent the day at @ParkBuloba , taking a breather, sharing laughter, cheering each other on, and for some, conquering the fear of heights! 😂 Because creating safe spaces for others also means creating space for ourselves to pause, recharge, and reconnect. And judging by these pictures, we had a really good day! 💛🎨 #FacesUp #TeamWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #TeamCulture

Communication is an interpersonal skill we all continue to learn. But our last art session at Ntinda School for the Deaf reminded us that communication is not only about how we speak. It is also about how we approach, listen and make space for someone to be understood. We asked the learners: How would you like someone to approach you, call you or start a conversation with you? They could draw it, write it or express it in their own way. For Amjad Anwar, a Primary Four learner, the answer was simple: “Tap me gently on the shoulder.” But the session revealed something deeper. Some learners shared how frustrating it feels to be misunderstood or when people do not pay attention while they are communicating. It reminded us that communication is a two-way street. If we want children to communicate confidently, we also need to learn how they want to be communicated with. Sometimes, the best way to connect with a young person is to stop assuming, ask, and listen. Because being understood begins with being heard. #facesup

The final picture takes you back to where he started. Seeing the two side by side shows just how far he has come. Faustine’s artworks, along with work from other young artists, are available at store.facesup.org , at our physical shop @YujoRestaurant .

Within months, Faustine developed his confidence, found his own style, and became one of the young artists now encouraging and teaching others. And the best part? The first three pictures show some of Faustine’s recent artworks. #facesupstore

When he first started #painting at our community art center, he told us he didn’t think he was good and he doubted whether he could get better. But with support, encouragement, mentorship, and the opportunity to keep creating, something changed. #facesupstore

Everyone starts somewhere. It’s not where you start that matters most, but whether you keep showing up, learning, and putting in the work. Look at Faustine today. #FacesUpStore #madeinuganda
