For more info, here's a video of Francois @f_charton speaking at the renowned Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (Collatz starts 40'49''): online.kitp.ucsb.edu/online/… The talk also covers other discovery work: Lyapunov functions, PatternBoost, generating Calabi-Yau manifolds.
1/ The Collatz conjecture has humbled mathematicians for near 90 years. Paul Erdös said "mathematics is not yet ready for such problems." 🧵 So we handed it to transformers. What they learned stunned us! New research from Axiom's math discovery team, blog live this morning.

I've spent my career thinking about hard math problems. I am excited to share that I've joined Axiom @axiommathai as Founding Mathematician working with my former student @CarinaLHong. AI for mathematical discovery in WSJ today.
AxiomProver keeps getting stronger. And @axiommathai keeps growing. I'm excited to share that Prof. Ken Ono @KenOno691 has joined Axiom as Founding Mathematician and FTE #15. He left his tenured position as STEM Advisor to Provost at UVA to build an AI mathematician with us. Here's Ken's story. (1)

Axiom sets out to build an AI mathematician. We are the underdog. 4 months old, 2 years late to the game, under 10 FTEs (recently grew to 17), and had 1:5 in funding and in valuation to our competitor. Today, AxiomProver solved Erdos Problems #124 and #481 in Lean, a 100% verifiable language. Onwards!

To the brilliant scientists at Meta FAIR & GenAI: You are world-class. We have read your work. You deserve a new place you call home. Axiom is a frontier reasoning lab, just out of stealth with a $64M seed.🚀 No politics. Only SOTA research. Restoring the golden age of FAIR. careers@axiommath.ai

I am extremely happy to announce that our paper Can Transformers Do Enumerative Geometry? (arxiv.org/abs/2408.14915) has been accepted to the @iclr_conf !! Congrats to all my co-authors Alessandro and @roderic_guigo #ICLR2025 #AI4Math #ORIGINS
🚨How can we teach Transformers to learn and model Enumerative geometry? How deep can AI go in the rabbit hole of understanding complex mathematical concepts? 🤔 We’ve developed a new approach using Transformers to compute psi-class intersection numbers in algebraic geometry.

Pangenome-Informed Language Models for Privacy-Preserving Synthetic Genome Sequence Generation 1. The paper introduces two novel tokenization schemes for synthetic genome generation using pangenome graphs: Pangenome-based Node Tokenization (PNT) and Pangenome-based k-mer Tokenization (PKMT). 2. These tokenization methods aim to enhance DNA sequence modeling by capturing longer sequence contexts while ensuring privacy through differential privacy (DP) techniques. 3. Pangenome graphs provide critical sequence alignment information, boosting model performance in generating synthetic DNA sequences compared to traditional tokenization schemes. 4. The study emphasizes the importance of privacy in genomic data, addressing the challenges of sharing sensitive data while maintaining high utility in synthetic datasets. 5. Differential Privacy (DP) is applied during training, introducing noise to protect individual genome sequences, balancing between privacy and model accuracy. 6. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of PNT and PKMT, showing improvements in training time, sequence alignment, and overall model scalability for genomic tasks. 7. Future work will focus on improving DP training performance and further exploring the application of pangenome-informed tokenization schemes in various genomic research areas. @f_charton @erikgarrison 📜Paper: doi.org/10.1101/2024.09.18.6…

fwiw i think the real precursor to AlphaProof is the 2019 neural integration paper by Lample (@GuillaumeLample) and Charton. from what i could gather, all the ingredients are there, its the very same core idea with some technical variations. arxiv.org/abs/1912.01412

I found a nice spot to do some work @SLAClab. We are having a small meeting about the use of transformer models to help solve problems in theoretical physics (specifically planar N = 4 supersymmetric Yang–Mills theory) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N_%3D_…

No. The research arm of Bell Labs was never about moonshots. It was about hiring the best scientists into small departments (typically 5 to 15 people) and giving them resources and a *lot* of freedom to work on what *they* deemed most promising. That's how you get breakthroughs.

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the public launch of FAIR-Paris. The Parisian site of FAIR (Meta's Fundamental AI Research organization) is one of 7 sites and one of the largest. *Amazing* research has come out of FAIR-Paris over the years. FAIR-Paris hosts around 30 resident PhD students at any one time (under the CIFRE program). Around 10 new PhDs graduate each year, who go on to contribute to the French and European AI ecosystem. facebook.com/story.php?story…

Three years ago, I started working on an easy-to-use tool for interpretable machine learning in science. I wanted it to do for symbolic regression what Theano did for deep learning. Today, I am beyond excited to share with you the paper describing it! arxiv.org/abs/2305.01582 1.
