The US government is buying services from Harvard: scientific & medical research & development.
These aren’t ‘woke donations.’
They are contracts. Proposed, reviewed, awarded, with metrics and deadlines and standards of performance.
Harvard is a government contractor in that sense — lab by lab, scientist by scientist — just the way any other company is a contractor.
That’s true of Columbia’s $400 million in ‘frozen’ contracts — and all the rest.
R1 research universities do crucial research the federal government can’t do itself, but that we as a nation have decided we need done.
Mission driven. Pioneering. Essential.
They can’t be done — as Sean Hannity just suggested — at community colleges & vocational schools.
That’s not what the $2.2 billion is being spent on.

Far Leftists think that they can reject Biden and the
Dems and "burn down the whole thing and start again."
What they can't tell us is how they imagine Trump and his Project 2025 theocratic fascists are going to just step aside and let them do that.
That's because they haven't thought that far ahead. There is no tangible, realistic plan.
This is simply a reckless and irresponsible display of performative outrage that will do nothing but give the GOP carte blanche to continue to weaponize the courts and the military, and to continue the rollback of civil and human rights that millions of people fought decades for.
And this isn't about preventing genocide, because Trump as an ally to Netanyahu and Putin, will only accelerate the violence against the Palestinian people and Ukraine and bring greater instability to the Middle
East and Europe.
It's just such a waste and will do irreparable harm to hundreds of millions of people. It's a tragedy that moderates and progressives are having to overcome both the Far Right and Far Left to protect all of us.
