The Golem of Glasgow by Joshua Lander is now live on our Substack! Head over to With Bite to read 🦷
His book, Philip Roth and the Body: Jewishness, Gender, and Race was published by Bloomsbury in 2024. Currently, he’s working on his first novel, The Wasp’s Nest, a tragicomedy set in Glasgow that explores blood libel, antisemitism, and assimilation.
Nothing beats the back to school vibe of autumn 🍂
In line with this, we are running a workshop series over the next three months that focuses on the more technical aspects of writing — grammar with @CaileanSteed self-editing with @HeatherParryUK and pitching with Caro Clarke!
We can’t wait for @CaileanSteed workshop next week! So many of the technical aspects of writing are overlooked or misunderstood. We think that now (especially with the rise of AI!) knowing the rules of grammar and syntax is essential for anyone trying to write a good sentence.
If you haven’t got your ticket yet head over to our website to register. All proceeds from our workshops go straight back into further development opportunities for writers ✍️

I rlly rlly like Vanessa
Next up in our How I Got Here strand, we caught up with Issue Nine contributor Vanessa Santos!
Vanessa spoke to us about her book deal, her relationship to writing both pre and post-publication and much more! Check out the full interview over at With Bite 🦷
Her debut short story collection, Make a Home of Me, was published by Dead Ink Books in 2025. It was longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize, and one of the stories, ‘Emily’, won the Shirley Jackson Award for best novelette. In Your Heart a Devil is her debut novel.
Brand new fiction from Flo Ward up on With Bite now 💌
We loved Flo’s mysterious and all-too-relatable story about Amara moving into a building where the post never arrives and the group chat is constantly hopping. Head over to our Substack now to read more 🏠
Flo Ward is a writer and editor from London. Her fiction has been published by Uncertain Stories and the Argyle Literary Magazine, and her essays have been published by Dean Street Press, the South East London Journal, Texture and elsewhere. She is working on a novel.
This autumn our workshops will be focusing on what is perhaps one of the most important, yet often overlooked, elements of writing — craft! So much about the writing life is mythologised, opaque and gate-kept, it can be easy to forget the value of writing sentences that work.
Our first workshop, Polish Your Prose, will be led by the brilliant @CaileanSteed and is aimed at writers seeking to improve their technical writing skills and understanding of grammar.
