When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do.
I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics.
I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job.
Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help.
That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils.
Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen.

Total support for this. There are plenty of things where we have healthy disagreement, but there are some core values - the things that define us as a country - that are under attack and unity is strength.
The strongest section of Kemi Badenoch's speech so far:
"To those who say “unite the right”... we are not uniting with THAT. I don’t want to live in a country run by people who threaten journalists, call veterans traitors and debate whether my mixed-race children are English.
"I don’t want to explain to my son, when we’re watching our brilliant England team play football, that some people don’t think our black players are English.
"I remember back in the day when Ian Wright and John Barnes were playing - nobody was questioning whether they were English. We certainly didn’t have sitting MPs questioning whether they were English.
"We must not let these people take us backwards. That is not the country we are. I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but I am black. I am British. I’m proud of my country, I’m proud of our history."

Sad to see the traditional Green Party move to the extremes over the last year.
This motion is hugely problematic, particularly in its rejection of protections for Jewish people.
The two-state solution is the only viable opportunity for peace - we should all work for that.
BREAKING
The Green Party has declared that “Zionism is racism”, after a motion was passed by members at its conference against the wishes of several MPs
The move means that Zionism, the movement that led to the creation of Israel as a Jewish state, will be “treated as any other form of racism” by the party
1,022 people voted for the motion while 813 who voted against it
Zack Polanski, did not cast a vote. A Green Party spokesman said this was because he was on the campaign trail for the Holborn & St Pancras by-election, in which he is standing
Polanski has previously said that Zionism is a form of racism but he had not said whether he would support the motion

Growing up on a council estate and raising children as a young working mum, I know first hand how access to a secure, affordable home can be a lifeline- and foundation for a better life.
As part of our £39 billion Social and Affordable Homes Programme, we’re allocating funding to build genuinely affordable homes, with most of them for social rent.
Getting councils building once again is fundamental to tackling the housing crisis - giving a families a route out of temporary accommodation and bringing down waiting lists.

Reform would deny social housing to single parents with children - like the family I grew up in. They would deprioritise same-sex couples with children. Most chilling, they think they can free up 500,000 homes by kicking families out.
Time for people to reject this division.
“Would a married British couple get priority over a single British person?”
Richard Tice: “Yes… having British-born children is a good thing. We need to encourage that.”
Q: “A single person might have children.”
Tice: “Children in married couples will do really well at school and we want to encourage that.”
Q: “Where would a married same-sex couple fit in your priority list?”
Tice: “There’ll be an allocation list… we’re focused on young British workers first.”
