I’m sorry you’ll resign but I was in a mixed sex emergency ward with my mother as she had no where to go and tbh I was more concerned about the trans person there because of how my mother would have reacted than for them.I stayed there to make sure all was ok. Think of everyone!

It’s crazy to me that we’ve conflated pseudo-intellectual obscurantism with good writing to the point where people actually think Ben Lerner is a great stylist. The subject here is a painting. What does the painting look like? We have almost no idea. We’re told the narrator is moved by it, but we don’t feel him being moved because the prose is so abstruse and dead. Good writing does not mean stringing random words together and then calling them "deep." Good writing means communicating your thoughts both clearly and concisely. Lerner fails on both counts.
