Since there was no communication from anyone from supercell regarding my post yesterday I feel like we should dive a little deeper into the problems that some of you might not even see.
Yesterday I tried to explain why there is almost no money in the competitive eco system of Clash Royale.
I want to point out that gambling should stay out of this game and it should stay out of every esporttitle.
My network in esports is quite alright, I know a good bunch of people outside of Clash Royale from my old days in Call of Duty and Trackmania, but am also well connected to orgs in other gametitles like Counterstrike.
From Nov 2025 until March of 2026 I tried to find an org that wanted to step into Clash Royale. I was in contact with somewhat around 150 orgs in that timespan, either loose contact up to a lot of calls about that topic. All of which competing in gametitles that are part of the Esports World Cup. None of which did the step towards Clash Royale in the end.
Why? Because I simply couldn't deliver any informations. Nothing. How does the season look like? What prizepool are we expecting? Will there be LANs? I couldn't answer any of these. Asking Supercell employees about it, willing to sign an NDA, so we can have progress always lead to the same experience: Either ghosting or messages like "We can't do that".
I somewhat feel like it is simply because there is no planning at all until the very last moment.
I mean worlds in 2025 were supposed to be in brazil (if I am not mistaken) and we ended up in the US. This year people spoke about Los Angelos and we got the complete opposite again. I have seen various screenshots from Supercell Employees actually saying things like "this company is actively working against itself" (in a definitely more mean way).
And I wonder why that is. Because if I have a financial household planned for the next year, why is it a problem to drop information about the Prizepool for example? Do you wanna build up hype? Guess what, it's the opposite. Because the more you wait, the more people expect and in the end disappointment will be there. Furthermore people can not plan as I stated above. And if you can not plan with an org you know by now what that will lead to.
But sure, let's get more into the Orgs - Clash Royale side. All in all the game Clash Royale is one of the best games to do content on, as an org even. And this is how orgs these days operate.
Back in 2010, when I was a player myself, orgs worked with brands like Razor, Steelseries or whatever. Because a) we did not have mobile gaming and b) those brands simply cared about one thing: Being connected to the best players around. Having the best players as a mascot for your product was enough to get a brand deal, having jersey advertisement and a product placement every now and then.
Nowadays brands don't care about your performance anymore. They care about visibility and reach. You get that through content.
SK Gaming is a great example for this. They went from an org competing in the biggest titles to signing content creators. And it works, they work with Mercedes, Telekom and a big german supermarket chain.
They might have signed Sam and Morten because of teams CRL back in the days, but with every respect, they are not signed for their pure performance as esports players anymore, it is mainly because of content and reach.
So orgs, although everyone loves the competition more than content, have to go for reach first, before they sign players for their performance. This is how esports works.
But as you can see this is a big dilemma if we take situation and put it onto Clash Royale.
As I explained yesterday there is no visibility for orgs as they are actively left out, but not just because of communication, also because of informations on how the season will go on. It hurts the environment so much, but no one sees it. It's out of my mind.
Just to name a few more examples of how that is happening:
I have never seen a caster just actually name the team a player is representing. A simple "Pedro who is currently signed to SKCalalas" or "Vitor who is representing Vatic" could be enough.
There are no logos displayed in the stream even. It happened last year in the first monthly final, but afterwards it wasn't seen again.
The content made with players is by far the most uncreative stuff I can imagine. Just some short interviews, although they could produce actual long form videos about their performance so far every once in a while, so that orgs again have the option to display their merch including brands.
They could also interview coaches or staff members behind a player on why that player got signed. Of course this is mainly the job of the org, but since no orgs are interested in CR you have to work with those that are there and they don't have the structure, finances or whatever to make that happen, because again, no brands are interested. It's a circle of death that only Supercell can change at the moment.
I am an esports enthusiast for my whole life. I like offline events, I like players wearing merch and feeling connected to their org and team. This is the core of a competitive scene. Meanwhile we have 6/15 out of the world finalists not being signed at all and the rest of which are signed to small orgs like SKC, Vatic, Joblife or WeSports. Only Morten and Mugi are signed to big orgs.
This comes to a two facts:
Players overvalue themselfes in terms of salary
Orgs again dont want to step in CR
And it is not even a players fault asking for X amount of money. They are on the top of the game, but a game that is not interesting esportswise. I can't even blame someone asking for 2.000$ per month as a salary, not wanting to share a portion of their earning, because there isn't a lot to be made anyways.
Do you know what players in other gametitles make though?
Counterstrike: 15k+
Valorant: 5k+
PUBG: 5k+
Trackamnia: 3k+
Can we compare these scenes to Clash Royale? - No
But we should see what they do well and try to at least copy something, so that our scene grows again.
And it starts with communication, planning, taking responsibility for the mistakes you made and most importantly: Involving orgs and more tournaments
Speaking of brands: When was the last time there was a tournament for Clash Royale, doesn't even matter if it was purely online, that was actively sponsored by a brand? I am not speaking of the MFs from last year, I mean something Red Bull MEO.
Why is there no one in the Clash Royale marketing department that is able to speak to brands about sponsoring a tournament?
Could be anything like the LIDL CrownCup or the Walmart Masters or whatever.
How does that work? Contact a brand, pitch them the idea with actual numbers and let the brand pay for the prizemoney. Now what? Tell staff members about what's going on so that content from orgs, how small they may be, can be prepared, so that the brand paying for it get's more visibility. Communication and hard work is key here, but I feel like we have hit a dead end of comfort that we simply drive to the very end.
And trust me: this works in a lot of other gametitles. So what could be the cause for it not working in Clash Royale which is one of the games being so easy to access. You don't need no console, no hightech computer, just your phone.
Coming back to high expectations of players for salaries. Again, this is no complaint, I am just trying to explain the financial side behind this.
Since you can not have brand deals, the only way as an org to sign a player is by gambling on his performance.
I have seen players asking for 500$ per month for 15% of their earnings and they are not even in the LCQ. A) this salary is literally nothing if there was actual marketing behind the whole esports scene., yet way too much for the current situation B) 15% is a lot in case the player performs really well.
Supercell, is that what you want? A weird situation where players are so desparate to share those amounts of %s, yet orgs still don't see any benefit or profit in this, while getting 15% for example?
500$ per month for a mid tier player, who maybe made it to LCQ, so the average earnings would be around 2-3.000$.
That's like 5.000-6000$ in terms of salary, for a revenue of 300-450$. And funny enough, it's the only way of making money for an org. Yet this is what players actually want, a safe space.
But what does the player have to do to get to LCQ, maybe even Worlds? 4h of practice each day, or lets say 25h of practice per week (if that's enough). You know who also is part of this? The coach, but that topic is something for tomorrow.
In this scenario the player won't do any content for your org or brand, because why? For 500$?
I don't know if anyone from Supercell reads this, but is it the ROI you are looking for in esports? If there is no ROI then let's end the scene instead of creating a scene where only those who can actually afford practice are able to perform well.
Do you remember when Friendlinks were sold? When Clans were created with boosting services? Take a guess why that happens. I might give you a hint here: Because no one can afford to be a pro player anymore.
No one wants to sell friendlinks or be in Clans that are simply there for advertising shady stuff, but people are reliant on the money, because not everyone can or wants to do content.
Lucas was a prime example for this when he said yesterday that his underperformance in CRL might be because of doing content constantly, which he doesn't even enjoy.
Give us the league and the environment back we deserve
