The DOJ's job is to prove that Matt Farwell killed Sandra Birchmore. But it doesn't sound like they're satisfied with only doing that. They are hellbent on proving the State Police covered up her murder, which they don't need to do to prove Farwell is guilty. They are choosing to do this. They are putting the State Police on trial.

State Police under the direction of John Fanning never reached out to speak with a female Stoughton Police officer who worked with Sandra Birchmore in the explorers program, kept in touch after graduation, saw her happy one month before she died, and was insistent that Birchmore would never kill herself. The fact O’Keefe was a Boston cop is why anyone at all was charged in that case. They damn sure weren’t going to even investigate the most likely suspects, the McAlberts.
Birchmore wasn’t a Boston cop. To the Norfolk County District Attorney, and all the police involved, Sandra was not important enough to do justice, and they thought nobody would notice.
