Senpai doesn’t remember. She was complaining about the music, but this was when Kouhai and I were smitten by her. (He’s fine, btw). The song came unbidden while I was panic-painting.

Someone else had pointed out that the song was featured in a strangely hopeful Black Mirror episode, San Junipero, and I teared up (not in front of Kouhai— some tatemae must be maintained) when I saw it. Weird that it hits me HERE, NOW, of all times and places.

a filipino kid not knowing what an "aswang" is is exactly why we need more "filipino-centered" movies like this. i don't want our future generation to know about cyclops, medusa, gumihos, yokai, etc. but not know aswangs and engkantos.
I watched Forgotten Island. It was good. I mean, the animation, the colors, the overall look of it were really nice.
But I also felt like it packed in so many Filipino cultural references that anyone unfamiliar with the culture could easily get lost or miss some of the meaning. Maybe that was partly the point of the movie - to introduce Filipino culture, but the runtime felt too short to properly explain some of those references or give them enough backstory.
I also felt like Manang's character was a bit forced into the story. The plot probably would've worked fine without her, but I guess she also served as another distinctly Filipino character.
Overall, it wasn't bad at all. It just felt more like a movie made for a Filipino audience, people who already understand the culture and references, than for a global audience.
I even heard Pinoy kids asking their moms things like, "What's an aswang?" So I can only imagine how much more unfamiliar some of the references might be for non-Filipino viewers.

Even now I’m half-thinking this show isn’t happening. It’s been the pattern of my life that if something looks good, we’ve probably missed something, and it’ll bite ME in the ass. But thinking this way has dominated most of my waking life. It’s high time I stop.
Even on the freak chance that my shadow self is right, I can’t let it color how I see the rest of my life. This is one show. Admittedly my first, but it’s still one show. There will be others. Failing that, I’m still a filmmaker. I’m still (an admittedly inactive) actor.
I've lost more dice than I can remember having. Pretty, shiny, polyhedral delights (until you step on a d4).
Motivational speakers (who know jack) to the left of me. Missionaries (who know less) to the right of me. In the center, ads for apps and "courses" (made by con men) that will supposedly fix me for a hefty subscription fee. Gods I don't believe in, send me some quiet.

Environmental groups submitted a petition before Manila City Hall urging Mayor Isko Moreno and the city council to reconsider the issuance of Certificate of No Objection to the SALEX Project.
According to Stop SALEX Movement, the construction of the six-lane elevated expressway will pass through Manila’s core districts and over roads where heritage structures are located.
Among the structures are the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Ospital ng Maynila, Ramon Magsaysay Center, Supreme Court, UP Manila, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Paco Park, St. Vincent Parish, and Adamson University.
“These structures house institutions that provide health, judicial, and educational services essential to a progressive society,” the group described.
