Spent a couple hours digging into LA Councilmember Gil Cedillo's campaign contributions and wow, the things this guy is getting away with in broad daylight are insane. Not surprised there's an active FBI probe of our City Council. A short 🧵 (TLDR: vote for @EunissesH!)

Over 100 environmental leaders have signed an open letter denouncing Chevron’s support for Karen Bass and condemning Big Oil’s attempt to influence Los Angeles elections. It’s no surprise that one of the biggest polluters in LA County is supporting my opponent. Every local environmental organization has endorsed my campaign. As mayor, I’ll focus on climate resilience and emergency preparedness, expand park space, plant 100,000 trees before the Olympics, ban oil drilling within City limits, reduce dependence on imported water, and improve air quality. Mayor Bass keeps dodging the question: Why is the LAPD collaborating with ICE?

Karen Bass is trying to create racial friction to help her reelection efforts. Nithya correctly praised Special Order 40 implemented under Gates that prevented LAPD officers from questioning people for sole purpose of determining immigration status. Bass is treating Black people like we’re stupid in hopes of activating Black people to get to the polls for her. It’s not just cynical, it’s shameless.

In a city of 3.9 million people, you shouldn’t need the mayor’s cell phone number to get help. Did the residents of Boyle Heights have your number, Karen?

Nithya Raman is getting better and better at this
Los Angeles Mayoral candidate @nithyavraman (D) on her previous endorsements of her opponent, Mayor Karen Bass (D): "Running was not an easy decision, wasn't a personal vendetta, but my loyalty ultimately is to my constituents and the people of this city."

In this story, I briefly call out Bass' nonsense excuse for firing LA's chief heat officer and collapsing its Climate Emergency office. Much more detail here from Marta Segura, the fired chief heat officer: martaspeaks.medium.com/the-r…
ICYMI, I wrote about last week's environmental forum with Karen Bass and Nithya Raman. Key moment was Bass' closing statement: “I have a record. She has wonderful ideas and plans.” Best possible case for Raman, IMO! climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/…

We need a Mayor who won't sell Los Angeles to the highest campaign donors, who welcomes transparency and accountability, and who will ensure basic city services are properly funded, NOT CUT. We need a Mayor who will meet THIS MOMENT. VOTE for Nithya Raman for LA Mayor! 💚

A story that should make your blood boil. LA has lost 57,000 jobs in film and TV during the four years Karen Bass has been mayor. But it still took Mayor Bass almost THREE YEARS to appoint a film czar. Now shows set in Los Angeles are being shot in ... New Jersey. In the debate last night, the mayor talked about how much she wants to do as mayor, after four years of being the mayor. Homelessness is up, the population of the city shrinking, we're not paving roads because the city can't build a ramp for less than 50 grand, and we're WAY behind on the city's own plan to build new housing even as the mayor caves to NIMBYs to try to fight development all over LA. So Bass spends the night pandering to a small group of mostly white and wealthy homeowners in Sherman Oaks. But those homeowners are ALSO angry about rising homelessness and declining services which are in fact downstream of their policy preferences! It's a farce. The fundamental question for LA is: who will govern with the urgency and aggressiveness that reflects the actual scale of the emergency in this city? Bass hasn't. Nithya would. latimes.com/entertainment-ar…

Homelessness has risen, people continue to sleep on the streets, and we have had no meaningful action from City Hall for four years. I'm running for mayor to change that.

It’s moving, but where are the people? This project was supposed to open over three years ago and is almost $1 billion over budget. What went wrong? The project’s contractor, LINXS, has essentially been extorting the city for years. Now Mayor Bass’ Airport Commissioners are making YOU pay for it by tripling fees on Uber and Lyft rides.

I mean, whar business does the Sherman Oaks HOA have hosting the first mayoral debate? Literally who are those people?
The Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association didn't spring for a professional Zoom account, so sorry, you can't watch the Mayoral debate if you're just logging in now. shermanoakshomeownersassocia… Seriously, what is this amateur hour foolishness? The City has a television channel.

NEW: Nithya Raman has locked up a key endorsement from Western States Carpenters, once one of Mayor Bass’ major backers. “You get our boots on the ground,” Pete Rodriguez, union official, promises Raman.

For two years, a Charter Reform Commission studied how to make City Hall more representative, more accountable, and more effective. Expanding the City Council. Ranked choice voting. Stronger police accountability. Housing decisions that aren’t driven by backroom politics. Now, with the deadline here, most of those reforms are being pushed off yet again. This is how change often dies in Los Angeles, with another delay. Angelenos deserved the chance to vote on reform in November.
