BITCOIN-ANCHORED DIGITAL IDENTITY WITHOUT TRUSTING A SERVER
Spaces has introduced a “Trust Anchor” that lets apps verify human-readable identities against Bitcoin itself rather than relying on a centralized server.
Users obtain a single Trust ID, scan or paste it into a Spaces-compatible app, and can then verify handles such as alice@bitcoin against a locally verified view of the Spaces protocol state.
The Trust ID is derived from Bitcoin’s header chain and the accumulated state of Spaces, effectively creating a universal root of trust anchored to Bitcoin.
On macOS, the new Veritas app can generate the Trust ID without requiring users to run a Bitcoin full node. Users can also connect Veritas to their own node for stronger security guarantees.
Those already running Bitcoin Core can generate the same Trust ID using the Spaces client.
The broader goal is to turn Bitcoin into the foundation for a decentralized certificate authority, allowing apps to authenticate identities without trusting a company’s server.

The greatest threat to a free speech internet & open public debate is militant political groups, who make it unsafe to express your opinion.
These groups coordinate in Telegram groups to manufacture strategies such as doxxing (or baiting others to do it) to silence dissent and control narratives.
They will defend their infringement on the physical safety of others as a one-time, necessary exception for their broader mission.
When software was expensive - thin, horizontal, best-of-breed software stacks extracted rents across every business.
Now that software is cheap - value moves to vertically integrated businesses that deliver opinionated end-to-end experiences.
