US policy toward Russia & Ukraine is, in a word, shameful. Trump continues to do things FOR Russia & TO Ukraine. But where are the others, from @SecRubio to Republican senators? Do they really want to be seen by history as accomplices to appeasement? richardhaass.substack.com/p/…

Yes. Like most Americans, I stand with Ukraine. Please share/repost if you do, too. Slava Ukraini! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦
I am grateful to all of you who are trying to keep Europe and the United States together. There are so many people with good hearts in America who sincerely want evil to lose and Ukraine to stand strong. These are the very hearts that helped Europe defend its freedom, and that fought on D-Day, won the Cold War, and want what is best for Europe. Hearts that want to be allies, not to divide or humiliate Europe. I believe most Americans still feel this way. And at the end of the day, the American people will have their say. Putin will listen to America if America really turns up the heat on him and makes one thing clear – either he chooses peace, or he gets no more money for his war. From an address to the participants of the European Council meeting. (2/5)

It looks like Putin told Trump that Ukraine was causing high gas prices, a lie that is convenient for Trump. Obviously it’s Trump’s war in Iran that is the issue. But Trump can’t accept that. So now Trump wants to give Putin a lot of money for Russian diesel, which won’t do anything to markets and won’t even help him in the midterms, though I bet Putin told him it would. But since Russia and Iran are allies, the shift in US policy and any US taxpayer money that Trump gives Putin will help both the Russian war on Ukraine as well as the regime in Iran. Trump got his pocket picked as usual but the money is ours and the deeper price is the visible shift of US policy to support Russia’s war of aggression. In other words, Trump makes the world more dangerous by extending two wars and gets nothing in return, not even for himself (unless there was a side deal, which can’t be ruled out).

Another way to think about Trump announcement today: If he increased US diesel imports from Canada by 4%, he would gain as much fuel as from this Russia deal. But the Canadians are global super-villains, so who wants to buy from them when you could enrich Putin instead?

Today’s anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel — with the resultant trauma inflicted on Palestinians & Israelis — is an opportunity to underscore the need for new leadership & constructive activism. Here are lessons for how to get to a better place. bit.ly/4dVGYGM

In moments of fear and division, it’s easy to feel like progress is slipping away. But @evanwolfson reminds us that history tells a different story: change is possible when people organize, defend democracy, and refuse to give in to despair. This week on Duke’s Download, we talk about equality, authoritarianism, LGBTQ+ rights, and why our shared future depends on protecting each other. šŸŽ™ļø Listen to the new episode now youtu.be/GXrUZNOdVPs?is=cs3h… #DukesDownload #EvanWolfson #Equality #Democracy #CivilRights #LGBTQ #HumanRights #Progress

The damage Netanyahu has done to Israel is incalculable. There has been a 67% shift in America’s attitude toward Israel over the past 8 years. That’s not because the US has become 67% more antisemitic over the past decade. It’s because of his radicalism.

Trump's unparalleled corruption -- brought to you by the Republican Party and paid for by... you.
People keep saying Trump term II is the most corrupt administration ever, so I built a model to find out if it was true. I took the UN's definition of corruption, turned it into eight criteria and 100 points, and scored the leaders history remembers for looting their countries: Marcos, Suharto, Mobutu, Abacha, Obiang, Putin. Then I put every president since Eisenhower on the same scale, both parties, with every exoneration counted right alongside the convictions. Nixon scored 41 and no other American President scored over a 25. Trump's second term scored a 91, which ties him with Suharto and Mobutu and puts him above Marcos and Abacha. So he is not only the most corrupt president in American history. At this pace he finishes his term level with the most corrupt rulers of the last hundred years. PSA: don't come in my comments arguing about the results if you haven't read the full article, because ignorance is a choice. Full article is up now on my Substack (link in bio) and it's free.

Americans, too, are disgusted with what Trump and his Republican confederates and enablers are doing. We’re going to vote them out. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

For 25 years, Republicans irresponsibly showered the wealthy with tax breaks, driving our nation’s debt higher and higher. Now that it's surpassed $40 trillion, Republicans’ idea of fiscal responsibility is forcing working families to pay the bill through cuts to their health care.

The right to vote is the foundation of our Democracy, and the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the President to move forward with this assault on that right is an insult to the vision of our founders. Trump’s attempt to seize control over Americans’ ability to vote by mail threatens to silence their voices and must be challenged.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court has cleared the way for President Trump'sĀ executive order restricting mail-in voting ahead of midterms. apnews.com/article/trump-mai…

The Supreme Court stayed one injunction blocking the EO on standing/ripeness grounds, without ruling on its legality. A separate USPS injunction remains. "From 1989 to 2026, we’ve had Democratic presidents for 20 years and Republicans for 17.4 years. Care to hazard a guess as to the number of jobs created under Democrats vs. Republicans? Answer: It’s 49.8 million versus 1.9 million. That isn’t a typo." newrepublic.com/article/2143…
