Jordan Firstman says Sundance TV pushed back against his decision to cast a 50-year-old openly gay actor as the lead in his series “Call Your Father.”
“He wasn’t an unknown; he was a great working actor,” Firstman recalls, declining to give his name. “The studio was like, ‘We would love to cast a gay actor, but there’s just no one that even touches the level of fame we need to justify you doing the show at this budget.’”
“I got to a place where I told them, ‘I’m not doing this if the actor isn’t gay.’ I was a little bit threatening, like, ‘You guys don’t want to look homophobic.’”

It wasn't the sexual assault allegations.
It wasn't the coup attempt on January 6th.
It wasn't the racism.
It wasn't the transphobia.
It was the price of gas and groceries. As great as last night was, the sad reality is that Americans didn't care until it affected their wallets

Several figures here aren’t federal results or NY-specific. The $472B combines US wide pledges: Micron's $250B is nationwide (NY site $100B) Anthropic's $50B covers TX and NY. The 48% murder drop is from NY's state run GIVE program (28 departments, Jan – May 2026).
