ALT THEY'RE ALL HIDING SOMETHING. SO IS SHE. AGENT INTEREST in my WIP after a full request. 'I would love to see the new novel when you're ready.' - Response from agent after I pitched her my WIP following a Full Request when she asked about anything else I've written given my 'impressive writing'. Snippets of dialogue The letter heading, crisp, startling, hooks her gaze. Irresistibly, she reaches out, her heart suddenly thudding... 'What the hell do you think you're doing?' The dark furious voice makes her jerk back guiltily like a marionette pulled sharply up on her strings. The papers in her hand spill to the floor again with the sly whisper of shifting sand. A man stands in the doorway, his hand still on the door-knob, his expression one of absolute blazing rage. Kate (later) defensively to Alex: Well, it was his fault. He jumped to the wrong conclusion and I…well, I couldn’t tell him who I was and what I was doing there, could I?’

ALT 'Oh, I wouldn't say that,' he drawls. 'Some women of my acquaintance would hold that I have a great deal of charm.’ (Girl comes out to drape beach towels over stone balustrade to dry. Stands, hands going to hips, and glares at them – or rather at Kate. Someone calls her. Calls again sharply when she ignores them. With a final dark glower, aimed again at Kate, she swings round and stalks off indoors.) 'I take it she's one of them,' says Kate. 'Poor girl. Never mind. I understand you can get very good treatment nowadays.' He looks pained. 'I'll have you know I have an army of fans out there.' She can't help laughing. 'Oh yeah?' 'Yeah.' Then the most astonishing thing happens. They smile at each other. I could like him, Kate thinks. He can be high-handed and insufferable but in spite of that, he does have charm, dollops of it. Under different circumstances, if he wasn't gunning for every journalist who comes within ten yards of him, and if my name wasn't mine, we might even be friends.

ALT A 3x3 image moodboard featuring the following images: a stone courtyard overgrown with pale pink and red roses; a man in a black suit and a girl in a red gown dancing in a ballroom; a tree with copper leaves growing in the underground chamber of a castle; Kim Tae-hyung of BTS wearing a black jacket and crown from the "Black Swan" music video; a black background with the text "I'm here to save you, I'm here to ruin you;" the back of a dark-haired girl's head; a close-up of a woman's hands in the pockets of a red gown; a red pomegranate split in two down the middle; and several dripping wax candles on a table full of reddish-pink flowers.

ALT A blue and purple BG. Left text reads, “the pitch,” followed by, “Rule 1: Never look at the jinn. Rule 2: Never speak to the jinn. Rule 3: Never, ever do anything to draw the jinn’s attention. Once you’ve captured it, it’s impossible to lose,” and “Perpetually anxious, full-time disaster Leila lives by her sitti’s 3 rules for survival. But when the treacherous, shapeshifting spirits from her sitti’s tales steal her sisters, she’ll do whatever it takes—even strike a deal with a jinni—to save them.” Right text reads, “for fans of,” and images of the following book/movie covers: SPICE ROAD, IF I HAVE TO BE HAUNTED, SPIRITED AWAY, THE STARDUST THIEF, THE BURIED AND THE BOUND, AND SIX CRIMSON CRANES.

ALT A blue and purple BG. Text reads, “what to expect.” An illustration of a dark-haired girl and dark-haired boy by joleanart. Text beside the art reads: “tight-knit Lebanese American family”; “banter, betrayal, and (gasp) secrets”; “magical manifestations of fear and anxiety”; “an ace, neurodivergent MC with a magical sword? In this economy?”; “swoony, golden retriever LI with redacted magic”; “snarky jinn guide with a Heart of Gold”; “set in a magical Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and a hidden spirit realm inspired by Lebanon and Arab folklore”; “strike a bargain with the jinni outside your window, y/n?”; “ATLA-style elemental magic and shenanigans”; “the real villain is the OCD/anxiety we battled along the way.”

ALT An excerpt from UNVEIL THE STARS, which reads: I freeze. Make the mistake of looking up and into a pair of ice-blue eyes—inhuman eyes that shift in hue like a twilit sky—and three increasingly ridiculous thoughts occur to me: 1. Oh, god, there’s a jinni in the coffee shop. 2. Is nothing sacred anymore? 3. This is how I die, without even getting to order my silly little latte as a treat. The customer’s human features shimmer, melt into something otherworldly; cheekbones elongating, sharpening to jewel-cut angles draped in opalescent skin. Her hair drifts like strands of cirrus, stirred by an unseen wind. The tips of milk-white feathers protrude from her neck. Too late, I realize I’ve broken Sitti’s rules yet again. Never look at the jinn. Not directly, and not if you can help it.

ALT PITCH On a frozen lunar prison outpost, two exiled men uncover an ancient entity awakening beneath the ice. As their uneasy alliance against it twists into a bond both tender and terrifying, they are confronted with the one thing they never expected to find on a dead moon: a reason to live. ALT A self-made fantasy illustration showing a halfway transformed, dark-haired man, Prince Konstantin Veliki, with a silver crown and dragon wings. He is carrying a woman, a humble servant Iva, masquerading as a Duchess Zora, in a long, flowing cream-colored gown as they fly through the air. She is his guest but unbeknownst to him, she is plotting to poison him. In the background, a sprawling forest surrounds a magic academy, Kolegium with colorful, traditional Slavic-style onion domes—gold, silver, bronze and green. Each of the domes represents air, water, fire and earth magic respectively. Snippet text at the bottom reads: "Do you always sequester your guests and take flight with them?"

ALT A self - made vertical illustration of Iva in black armor riding a pale blue-scaled dragon, Konstantin as they plummet downward into a dark stone chasm. They are followed closely by Sergei and Marina on a glowing, fiery being - Rarog. At the very bottom of the shaft, a brilliant yellow sun-orb pulses with light. The text below reads: "Konstantin hunches and hurls us into the abyss. We are not flying; we are free-falling. I scream, but the wind snatches the voice from my throat. Ahead, Rarog tears through the dark like a golden comet, illuminating the walls of the chasm."

ALT A self-made illustration set in the catacombs under the magic academy, Kolegium, featuring classical-style statues on the walls. Iva, in dark armor, rides a bright, light blue-scaled dragon; it is Prince Konstantin Veliki in his dragon form. They face off against a monstrous, ethereal shadow dragon composed of wispy, black smoke and glowing eyes — this is Konstantin’s fallen father Tibor Veliki. A brilliant golden sphere of light, relic of the Slavic god of light, Belobog, called Spark of Creation, floats on a pedestal between them. Text at the bottom of the snippet reads: "Let us dance, little one," the Shadow Dragon hisses in a dry whisper of the fallen. "A worthy foe," Konstantin responds. We take to the air to meet the darkness. Two gargantuan winged silhouettes hover in the abyss, suspended in a precarious balance. They mirror one another; two sides of the same coin, champions of Belobog and Chernobog.
