For aspiring writers:
Your ultimate goal isn't building a writing habit.
It's falling so in love with interesting ideas that you can’t help but tell the world about them.
Writing is the medium—not the objective.

Update: "By 15 votes to 3, a congressional committee approved draft legislation that would strip the environment ministry of control of the rural environmental registry..." 😕

I'd rather risk the downside of looking foolish than the downside of this catastrophe. Again, even if our chance of affecting it is slight the equation is a no-brainer.
Maybe I'm misinformed. Maybe @LeoDiCaprio was misinformed.
But maybe we weren't.
It's not plausible that more people aren't talking about this. That you're hearing it from me. There is an explanation for why that is. I happened to be in the right place 24 hours ago to learn this before most people, and I was asked to help.
I don't think there are many sensible person that would say no to that. If they truly believed.
But how can we be so sure? It doesn't sound very implausible.
But indulge me in a thought experiment. What if you truly believed that the pin was about to be pulled out of the grenade? That the worst thing to happen in our lifetimes for the future of humanity was very likely to happen soon?
And I know it feels risky to retweet something that sounds over the top. Sounding like a climate alarmist is not cool.
I know it's tiresome to hear about the world burning—on Memorial Day, no less. I know it's hard to believe that signing an online petition about a political situation happening in (likely) a different part of the world is going to make any difference whatsoever.
I understand why. My message was very uncharacteristic. It sounded alarmist. And it was full of links to click.
But I was not hacked.
I wrote those messages. They were meant to be uncharacteristic. They were meant to be an alarm.
Again, this bill has majority support. You may be wondering, why will a petition signed by people who don't live in Brazil make any difference? I'm not an expert on this, but I have it on very good authority that it will help, via political influence.
"What’s more, the Bill also allows the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples."

The best description of the situation is also the link to do something about it, which is to sign a petition:
