Pain-care policy: opioid conference confronts failures at both ends of prescribing
At the Addiction Health Services Research conference underway October 5–7, physician-researcher Stefan Kertesz delivered a plenary yesterday examining what he describes as failures surrounding both the rise and the subsequent fall of U.S. opioid prescribing. The official program explicitly identifies failures to listen to evidence, patients and families and includes suicide among people living with pain.

I’m happy he was able thave his cancer removed. His Drs should’ve told him that he’d healed faster, would be more prepared & able to do his PT if he didn’t face this culture of anti #opioid dogma. Taking pain meds when you’re in pain is NOT a character flaw or lack of willpower.

A new Yale analysis found Medicare for All would cover every American AND save more than $1 trillion a year, cutting national health care spending by 20%.
It would also mean better pay for doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers. The savings from cutting private insurance and Big Pharma profits as well as administrative waste would pay for increased Medicare reimbursement rates and $52 billion in unpaid hospital care.

Are you seeing this? A surgical patient discharged with NO PAIN MEDICATION is dead. This is WAY more common that people know. And since Dept of HHS/CDC/NIH/VA are not tracking patient outcome since this de-prescribing agenda was rolled out, we have no idea about the numbers of harms and deaths that are directly related to these unscientific, inhumane policies.
