Until Viktor Gyokeres bundled in against Fleetwood Town, Arsenal had gone nine games without a goal from either him or Kai Havertz.
Starting both Gyokeres & Havertz in that game was as much about giving them a chance to fill their boots against lesser opposition.
But being dumped out of the Carabao Cup in one of the biggest cup shocks in English football history, with neither player excelling, leaves Arteta with a decision to make for Liverpool away.
Merino has shown how effective he can be when used as a striker during injury crises in spring and winter. The Spain international also has a penchant for scoring on the big occasion โ but for him to start ahead of the two others on Sunday would be a major statement from Arteta.

More matches at the age of 22 than Lionel Messi. 87 Premier League games in a row.
Bukayo Sakaโs injury issues should come as no real surprise.
Years of overplaying and poor recruitment - Arsenal are facing the inevitable consequences.

The problem is you thinking that when anything is achieved in a marriage, itโs only the husband that did it. Sometimes the finding of major projects is a joint effort. Na you know wetin you dey do by building the house alone when you are married.

Right, let me just address this because I think this is the problem I have with a lot of Nigerians. The moment you criticise something they have done, they are very quick to assume that your criticism is based on comparing them with what a white person has done. And honestly, that argument is getting tiring.
First of all, Blood Sisters was made by Nigerians. And because it was a Nigerian production, I expected to see a lot of things that reflected our realities, things that made sense within the world the movie itself created. I'm not asking you to make a Hollywood movie. I'm asking you to make a good movie.
Let's even start from the beginning. You establish this character as somebody who is highly notorious, powerful, and supposedly one of the best hit men. Yet, with the most unprofessional way ever seen he gets bested by a man who is later killed by just two women. Fine, let's even say that was a coincidence. Let's move on.
A man dies in a hotel. And this isn't just any random man in the story. This is the son of one of the most powerful and influential families in the world the movie creates. He goes missing, he is eventually found to have been killed, and the woman he was about to marry is involved. Now, explain to me why something as basic as checking the CCTV footage doesn't seem to be a priority. Why are we going round and round with the investigation while obvious things that should help solve the case are seemingly being ignored? And no excuse was made for that part
And that's just one example. Look at the bodyguard who sustained what the movie clearly mentioned as a third-degree burn. The man practically walked out of the hospital as if he had sustained a minor scratch. These are the kinds of inconsistencies I'm talking about. (it's not a sci-fi now)
And no, you don't have to be Hollywood to get these things right. You don't need a Hollywood budget to write a believable investigation. You don't need Hollywood technology to understand that serious burns require serious medical attention. You don't need to be white to tell a coherent story.
The problem is that some of you have started treating criticism of Nigerian productions as an attack on Nigeria itself. But those two things are not the same. I can want the Nigerian film industry to succeed and still say that a particular movie has serious problems. In fact, if we genuinely want our industry to improve, we should be able to have these conversations without making everything about patriotism.
Now, you said Blood Sisters is one of your most respected and globally recognised roles, and that it was part of why you were hired. Good for you. Honestly, congratulations on that. I'm not disputing your career achievements, and I'm not saying the production didn't open doors for you. But the fact that a movie helped your career does not automatically make every criticism of that movie invalid.
Your personal success from a production and the quality of the writing are two different conversations. A movie can be successful, it can be recognised internationally, it can create opportunities for the people involved, and people can still have legitimate criticisms about its plot, character development, and logic.
And that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm criticising the movie, not denying you your success.
You also said I should stop judging my God-orchestrated Nigerian life. But who said my criticism was about being Nigerian? Why are you making this about my identity or my expectations of foreign productions when I'm pointing out specific things that happened in the movie?
I don't need to compare Blood Sisters to Hollywood to know that a storyline has inconsistencies. I don't need to watch a white person's movie before I can question why an investigation is ignoring obvious evidence. These are basic storytelling issues.
To be honest, there are probably more examples I could give, but I've forgotten some of them because I watched the movie a while ago.

As Nigerians, we need to develop a greater sense of self-awareness.
Beyond the way many Nigerians constantly de-market the country online for social media validation, we also know how some of our compatriots conduct themselves in other African countries and the negative impressions their behaviour creates.
Personally, I am not surprised by the disrespect Nigerians sometimes face abroad. That doesn't mean I will tolerate it from anyone, but I would be dishonest to pretend I don't understand where some of these perceptions come from.
We cannot constantly ridicule our country, denigrate our passport, and turn every "japa" experience into content designed to humiliate Nigeria, then act shocked when others begin to see us through that same lens.
Criticising Nigeria is one thing; making a spectacle of its shortcomings for validation is another.
So, the next time you feel the urge to publicly trash the country for likes and engagement, remember that you may be contributing to the very disrespect you complain about.
National pride doesn't require pretending our problems don't exist. It requires understanding that how we speak about our country, and how we conduct ourselves abroad, have consequences.

Arteta forced Kai Havertz on us against Fleetwood yesterday, Arsenal lost.
When I say Kai Havertz has singlehandedly ruined Arsenal all these years, these are some of the reasons..

I genuinely feel for women in their 20s right now.
