as a VC fund lawyer + VC myself, my take on this is that it is hype-driven fomo marketing to create interest amongst potential investors. that being said, as long as the influencers got to invest on the same deal terms (with smaller ticket sizes) no harm.

Crazy story - this could have easily backfired though as a shotgun clause allows other shareholders to match your offer and buy you out too. I imagine the original fractional shares were purchased at a much higher valuation than the 10 ETH bid.
