Former Kiplinger Fellow @ChristopherJM is now, and has been, since the invasion of Ukraine, an authoritative source in the press’ efforts to cover this war on the field and in the board rooms. Today’s @financialtimes Great job.

Major kudos to Kip alumni @blakekaplan (R) and @bymatthewthall for their lobbying efforts on behalf of @newsalliance Publishers are lobbying to stop Big Tech giants from taking content without payment, draining the creators of quality content of the resources they need. Get em.

Excellent news. But…do me a favor and don’t delete this important regulation that restraints the @FCC from engaging in censorship.
Delete. Delete. Delete. The FCC has now teed up for deletion: 🔘 70,000 words from our rule books 🔘 804 rules or requirements 🔘 158 pages of regulations

Kids now need mom's permission to go on social media. This week SCOTUS let the Mississippi law stand (for now), even though it's probably unconstitutional. Yes, social media harms kids. But do we want government deciding what they can see? 📝 My full take: israelbalderas.substack.com/…

A visibly frustrated Zelenskyy left open the possibility of territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees, but sharply rejected pulling back Ukrainian forces from parts of eastern Ukraine. “We cannot do this,” he said. “What is the compromise? Will we be in Nato? In the EU? I haven’t heard anything, not a single proposal that would guarantee that a new war won’t start tomorrow.” via @fabrice_deprez @FT ft.com/content/1a073378-3d16…

A sad day for @washingtonpost readers as the standalone Metro section in print is eliminated and folded behind Style. As a lifelong Washingtonian and veteran of the Metro staff, I always admired the Post's commitment to covering Washington as a community not just a capital.

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made a series of claims about the BBC's coverage of events in Gaza on Sunday. We've looked at the claims - and the number of misrepresentations and untruths that they contained.

If you aren’t familiar with and knowledgeable of the situation it is better to ask questions than to push conspiracy theories. As I have been in close contact with those in Ukraine’s government working to return Ukrainian children abducted by Russia and was just on a call with Zelensky who explained the 400 figure today, I’ll explain. There are indeed thousands of Ukrainian children who have been taken one way or another to Russia. Because there are so many, and Russia is a vast country, and adoption agencies and foster parents and relatives etc have moved these children around, it’s hard to be certain of their location. Then there are the Russian requirements for returning a child, which include that Ukraine must have a legal guardian who has confirmed they are who they say they are and in many cases is willing to come to Russia to retrieve the child in order for them to be released. Russia has completely disappeared many of the Ukrainian children. It has also denied information about many of them when requested. This is all to say that it is a highly complex situation and the 400 names provided by Ukraine to the Russia side today include those children who have been confirmed to be in Russia, whose locations are known and who have legal guardians who want them returned and are willing to do whatever Russia requires to get them back. However, Russia said today it is willing to only work on returning 10 of these Ukrainian children. We don’t know why it said only 10. But Zelensky said this at least served as an acknowledgment that they have taken these children.

In the "personal news" department, this morning I let my colleagues know that I'm leaving The Washington Post. I'm retiring from my longtime journalistic home but not from journalism, and I'll keep you posted as I decide what my next chapter will be.

I’m confused… you want the government to battle against itself? Because only government has a censorship cartel… like when you punish a news organization because of its editorial choices.
DOJ 🤝 FTC 🤝 FCC Great to join with Assistant Attorney General @AAGSlater & FTC Chairman @AFergusonFTC today as we work to smash the censorship cartel.

One of the arguments for legislation to exempt the Legislature from FOIA is that legislative staff are overworked responding to FOIA requests. So far this year, the Senate has received two FOIA requests, the House has received none (HB 3412).
