We should move Independence Day to August, July is clearly a dangerous time to shoot off fireworks

I'm afraid that if I wear my little submarine Halloween costume THAT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON SINCE MARCH, it might come across as insensitive and cultural appropriation of billionaires. Back to the drawing board.

If you have a gun to protect your family, you are, as a matter of cold hard statistics, endangering your family and everyone you know.

A Black woman was killed yesterday in Albemarle County. She worked at the Haven and was a fierce advocate for unhoused community members in Cville and Alb. She leaves behind 5 children.

Tesla's self-driving capability is something like 10 times more deadly than a regular car piloted by a human, per an analysis of a new government report. @ryanlcooper has it:

I want to live in a world where this story is about @CvilleCityHall and @CvillePW being leaders in innovation and climate change solutions.
I don't live in that world.
Yet.
Our local gas utility did something exciting yesterday. It broke ground on a community geothermal network.
Instead of selling natural gas for heating, @EversourceMA is piloting a new role for utilities in advancing a low-carbon future.
A few reasons this is so exciting:

Mayor of Paris is leading the most ambitious effort worldwide to wean people off cars. She is redesigning transport, housing, jobs + public space so residents have the choice of living without long, polluting commutes. Cycling is now key to mobility. This is what leaders do.

My dad tried an e-bike for the first time yesterday. He loved it. “This would be great for canvassing!” 🚲
E-bikes are useful for all ages, and they are a great option for our hilly town, w/ safer streets. Hopefully VA can follow CO’s lead to make them more affordable for all.

Pale Blue Dot is a photo of Earth that was taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990 from a distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles) as it was leaving our solar system. This is what Carl Sagan said about the photo:
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”
