As primitive as I find Go given it's lack of many useful modern language features, I'm increasingly appreciating it's philosophy of keeping things simple with minimal abstractions. It makes it way easier to reason about a codebase quickly.

Couldn't disagree more. Can this work for small/ short-lived/ emerging projects? Sure. But for larger projects with many contributors, the motivation behind a change in behavior is important -- and tests are often not enough to explain.
After 20 years coding I just realised, commit messages are pointless. Now I just run: make g Shout out to @levelsio for the motivation. Deploys to prod around 12 seconds later. #buildinpublic

Unreal.
Tesla engineers reviewing Twitter's code base to tell Musk what Twitter needs to do is...interesting

#truth Was just mentioning this exact thing last night!
I want to make a software engineering magic 8-ball where every answer is "It depends"

This definitely aligns with what I've seen from people on @TeamBlind too. It's sad to me that maintenance engineers can become such unsung heroes - especially since I've known some fantastic ones!
Google insiders explain why Google launches many products and then abandons them. Hint: It has to do with chasing promotions. 🤦‍♂️

TFW when you tell a friend and former colleague how impressed and motivated you are by their journey... only to find out that they were motivated by you so many years ago. Thanks for your perspective and for making my day @SQLSuperVillain!

Lots of interesting questions, but this feels incomplete without exploring solutions -- The Atlantic: Is Google Dying? Or Did the Web Grow Up?. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv… via @GoogleNews
The amount of time and effort wasted on these grifts rather than doing something productive for society is mind-boggling sometimes

Great way to think about it. I've always associated it with long death march dev cycles where nothing ships - work might not feel meaningful, no sense of accomplishment, no feedback / input from users, etc.

Oh, the irony of "smart contract"
$34 million, or 11,539 eth, is permanently locked into the AkuDreams contract forever. It cannot be retrieved by individual users or by the dev team. The refund processing, which is complete, sets each bid status to 1.

So who's going to build the equivalent to web browsers core-js polyfill library for k8s? Asking for a friend...

My 5 year old immuno-suppressed daughter didn't build antibodies to the vaccines. She's a cancer and transplant survivor. Just a bummer. Still, we keep hope. This is why you vaccinate and mask up and take this pandemic seriously. You do it for those who are vulnerable.

A bunch of useful Pixel 6 Pro info in this thread
Finally, my 256GB @madebygoogle Pixel 6 Pro is here. While Android 12 isn't perfect, I'm still excited to switch to it for the camera, Call Screen, Hold for Me, incredibly fast on-device dictation, and other Pixel features.
