resident expert in the “civil rights tradition” 💀
This is probably the best and most interesting thing I’ve heard him say in an interview setting, rooted in civil rights tradition. So naturally a bunch of performative losers on here are mad about it.

It's not "purity" to distrust party switchers who never renounce the policy agenda of their old party. They are welcome on the bus. But they shouldn't get to drive the bus 5 minutes after they got on, especially if they've never apologized for crashing buses their entire lives.
Replying to @davidsirota
Sounds like you think anyone who used to be a Republican and now thinks that party lost it's way should first apologize for ever being a Republican before they are allowed in a centrist coalition. Purity politics, utterly self defeating.

“We get the credit, but not the blame, actually. That’s how that works,” @Timodc said. “If Kamala wins, we get the credit. Otherwise, other people get the blame if we lose.” If ever there was a motto for elite impunity, this was it. levernews.com/bulwark-neocon…

He’s an extremely bad faith, dishonest actor and thinks people are too dumb to notice. Many stories like yours!

Exactly the right people are very mad at me for suggesting that it might be bad for neocons to fully take over the Democratic Party. These people are telling on themselves.

1st event of its kind, I believe: Senators Van Hollen and Welch intro'd, and 30+ staffers (some who will have a role in appointee confirmations) came to hear testimony from fmr officials and @AkbarSAhmed on the malfeasance of the Biden officials now angling for 2028 gigs.
This week, Win Without War Education Fund, @anewpolicyorg, and @CIPolicy cohosted a panel for staff from 27 congressional offices on accountability for US officials implicated in the Gaza genocide. Hear what our panelists had to say ⬇️

Don’t be fooled by this favorable voter analysis re: Abdul. It’s part of the zionist corporate establishment plot Sarah is a part of.

It's a heavy subject, but I'd really encourage people to read this from my colleague Dorothy Slater, who spends her days working as a nurse in an oncology ward in Louisiana's cancer alley. Data centers are the latest addition to the miasma of pollution slowly killing her patients

One of the most punishing things in politics is being right too early.
Melissa Barrera reveals she was “emotional” seeing Macklemore receive support after being dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour for supporting Palestine, which she didn’t experience when being fired from ‘SCREAM 7’ for the same reason.

no political contingent has been more thoroughly disproven in the last few years than the brand of Beltway bozo who cheered on Ukrainians being put in a meat grinder for a pointless proxy war & then pretended we weren’t all witness to a genocide in Gaza with bipartisan consensus
WOW! Haaretz investigation is a MUST-READ! The Netanyahu gov received numerous warnings - incl from the UAE's ruler 10 days before Oct 7 - that Hamas was planning an attack. The ultimate source of the warning was Hamas' own Sinwar. Netanyahu ignored all the warnings and took no precautions. He didn't even convey it to the Israeli intelligence apparatus. But there's more. Immediately after Oct 7, Hamas offered to release all the civilian hostages - without asking for anything in return. The Biden admin was aware of this as well. But Israel wasn't interested, leaving both Hamas and the Qatari mediators baffled. So much bloodshed could have been avoided. So many innocent lives could have been spared. But Netanyahu appeared to have been uninterested - and Biden, of course, never put any real pressure on Israel - effectively allowing Netanyahu to determine US policy. haaretz.com/israel-news/isra…

It’s crucial to remember that the Nova music festival was supposed to end on Friday, October 6, but the organizers reached out to the IDF to get permission to extend it for an extra day. We know that warnings were everywhere at that point, yet the IDF approved the extension and added no security. Now we know, from new reporting in Haaretz, that Netanyahu had explicitly been warned 10 days earlier that Hamas was planning an “earthquake” of an attack.
This morning's Haaretz bombshell article claims Netanyahu received a direct, explicit warning from UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ) about 10 days before October 7, and never passed it on to Israel's security chiefs. The warning was that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was preparing a major operation against Israel. The warning reportedly stemmed from a secret backchannel, through which Israel and Hamas had been quietly negotiating a temporary truce and prisoner/hostage-body exchange throughout 2023, with Netanyahu's knowledge but repeated delays on his part. As talks stalled and Sinwar "vanished" in early September, he later used the same channel to warn twice that Hamas was preparing a "zilzal" (earthquake). This warning reached Israel's Shin Bet on September 15, triggering security meetings on September 17 and October 1, but no decisive action was taken. The article also reports on early, reportedly serious offers from Hamas (via the network of Mohammed Dahlan) to release all civilian hostages unconditionally in the days right after Oct 7, and a parallel Qatari mediation offer to the head of Mossad) both of which Israeli officials reportedly rebuffed or failed to take seriously), as the political and military leadership turned its focus on on destroying Hamas rather than negotiating with it. Israel elections are scheduled for Oct 27th.

He deleted the tweet, but @davidshor being unable to distinguish between defenseless Palestinian villages under attack by settler militias and “armed Palestinian groups” is a good indication of where many democrats are at in their understanding of Palestinians.

I wrote about @mattyglesias’s inability to conceive of what it would mean for a US politician to support Palestinians’ right to self-defense. Link in next tweet.
What does “support their right to self-defense” mean exactly?

Hi yes I’d like to make my entire personality out of my churlishness, vindictive impulses and uhhhhh could you please throw in some deliberate obtuseness … and a blinding self-regard that scientists can only replicate by staring at the sun for hours at a time
Nope! I think we should end aid to Israel and try to be as uninvolved with this situation as possible. But thank you for explaining.

This is the most important, most powerful and largest women's peace movement anywhere in the world now and in the 21st century so far. These women will be in history books. Ignore them, and you won't understand anything about this war and about Ukraine.
“You took my brother [to the war] — and he died! Aren’t you ashamed? Let the boy go! Let him go!” Women in my native city of Lviv shout as they try to free a young man being forcibly mobilized by recruitment officers and police. There is a deeply personal motive behind scenes like this — behind women stepping in to protect other women’s husbands, sons and brothers from forced draft. For them, this is not abstract politics. It is personal loss. One has lost a husband. Another, a son. Another, a brother... They know what that loss feels like. They know the hole it leaves behind, because they still carry it with them. And they do not want another woman to be condemned to the same grief. So they step forward. They defend someone else’s husband. Someone else’s son. Someone else’s brother. These women are among the true heroines of this war. They are its human face — in a war that has stripped far too many others of theirs.
