Another tragic and senseless killing at the hands of federal agents. I join the call by Minnesota state and local leaders demanding an independent state-led investigation of today’s shooting and an end to the surge of Border Patrol and ICE agents in local communities. 1/2
I told the White House the state must lead the investigation. Let state investigators secure justice. As we process the scene, stay peaceful and give them space. The State has the personnel to keep people safe – federal agents must not obstruct our ability to do so.

Trump & RFK Jr. are threatening hospitals to stop providing care for trans youth—including in WA state. This is dangerous & wrong. Families & their doctors know what’s best for them. NOT the federal government. Democrats will fight back.

Gender-affirming care is legal and protected in Washington state. In Washington: · Health insurers cannot deny or limit gender-affirming care coverage for people of any age when it’s prescribed as medically necessary. · Washington’s Medicaid program, Apple Health, covers gender-affirming care when it is medically necessary, safe, effective, and not experimental. · Washington’s Shield Law protects people in Washington from investigations or court proceedings in another state that concern lawful gender-affirming care provided here. My thoughts are with everyone across the region who has been impacted by this week’s flooding. And I’m grateful for all the first responders, government workers, and others who are ensuring our residents are safe during this emergency. Visit kcemergency.com for info.
Yesterday, I issued an emergency proclamation as our region is experiencing historic storms and flooding. This proclamation allows King County to move resources quickly, support our cities, and keep people safe.

On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the lives of transgender community members violently cut short by prejudice and hate. The reality is devastating: anti-trans violence is an epidemic, disproportionately targeting young, marginalized people, especially Black and Brown trans women. Behind every statistic is a loved one whose potential was unjustly stolen. Let this day be both a solemn time of mourning and a fierce call to action to challenge transphobia and fight for a world where every single person may live openly and safely in their truth.

Washington is proud to be the best state for women's sports in the country. As a softball dad, women's sports is a big part of my life. I asked my daughter Katie what softball has meant to her, and she said it was character building. That's the best answer I could've gotten as a parent. I'm grateful for all the role models who have broken barriers to inspire Washingtonians like my daughter do great things on and off the field. Happy Women in Sports Month!

Announcing the Governors Public Health Alliance. We can no longer rely on what's coming out of Washington, D.C., but our states are coming together to unequivocally state that science still matters. We will work together to safeguard public health and strengthen preparedness.
Fifteen Democratic governors formed a public health alliance to counter federal agency turmoil under the Trump administration. The alliance aims to monitor disease outbreaks, establish policy guidance and buy vaccines. wapo.st/3KPahPM

I voted NO on the annual defense policy bill. Trump is lying about chaos on our streets to deploy the military against our own citizens. I support our troops always, but I DON'T support a President who says Democratic cities should be used as "training grounds" for the military.
77-20: Senate passes the 2026 defense programs and policy bill, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Day 9 of the federal government shutdown. 60 votes were needed.

Welcome, Hawaii, to the West Coast Health Alliance. We’re not allowing our states to be put at risk while the CDC is undermined. We simply can no longer trust what’s coming out of Washington D.C. and Robert Kennedy Jr.
Governor Newsom, Governor Kotek, and I launched a new West Coast Health Alliance today to ensure residents remain protected by science, not politics. The Trump Administration has undermined the independence of the CDC and dismantled its vaccine panel. We're beginning the process to provide evidence-based recommendations regarding who should receive immunizations and to help ensure the public has credible information. Science drives our public health policy in Washington.

Our hearts are with Minnesota and everyone who loves the Hortman’s. @washdems
Today, with deep sorrow, we laid Melissa and Mark Hortman to rest. Melissa and Mark were the very best of us. Minnesota is a better place because of their selfless service and sacrifice. Now, it’s up to all of us to carry their extraordinary legacy forward and work hard to build the future they believed in. May Melissa and Mark Hortman forever rest in peace, together, and may their memory forever live on in each of us.
