Google announced new YouTube playlists for learning Search fundamentals and Technical SEO. This is such a good idea with resources you can have new SEO staff go through. Or really for anyone who wants to learn SEO. You'll learn how Google crawls, indexes and serves content, how to optimize for Search and how to use GSC and Google Trends. These videos are not new - it's just the playlist curation that is. Check out the new Gemini 3.8 Live creating a new website on the fly as this person draws and describes what they want. My thought - This sets Google up nicely for AI glasses - or as they call them, "Intelligent Eyewear." Gemini will be able to not only converse freely about anything you see but also do thinking and coding in the background. And yesterday Google announced you could do and discuss Deep Research with Gemini Live.
🤖 Made with AI
We’re introducing Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking – our best conversational AI. The models talk, think, and handle tasks in the background without breaking your flow. 🧵

Again, Google will never provide super-valuable data in the GSC links report since spammers could reverse engineer things if all the data was there... Doesn't shock me the report is lagging (again). Seems like the last time it was updated was early August.

There are times spam updates go unnoticed, and then there are some spam updates that cause a ton of volatility. Well, the August spam update was big. My latest post covers four case studies based on my analysis -> The August 2026 Google Spam Update – Scaled Content Abuse, AI Content, Programmatic Content, Thin Affiliates, And More [Case Studies] The issues I surfaced across sites that were impacted included: *Scaled content abuse (of course...) *Mixed with AI-generated content and programmatic content (again, of course...) *Thin affiliates (scraping Amazon data, no human involvement at all) *Malicious activity (mixed with other spam issues) And more... gsqi.com/marketing-blog/augu…

Google is rolling back Image Generation in Google Earth
Re: our statement on Image Generation in Google Earth: “We know that people uniquely trust Google Earth for a reliable view of the world. We’ve seen geospatial professionals using this feature for a range of useful purposes, however we’ve also seen people sharing screenshots of generated imagery that appear to violate our policies. So we’re rolling back this feature in Google Earth while we work on implementing stronger guardrails. It's important to note that generated images didn’t appear in the main Google Earth experience for others to see and were watermarked as AI generated.”

Google's new Open Knowledge Format opens up so many possibilities (and opportunities)! It is a standardized format for storing your knowledge in a way that agents can easily use. Instead of giving agents ALL of your knowledge to stuff into its context window, you give agents a map so they can find specifically what they need. I've shared some examples in my latest blog post and video. mariehaynes.com/okf/

Google shipped a standard for the thing I keep writing about here, making your website readable by AI agents. It is the Open Knowledge Format (OKF), and unlike most things Google ships, you can write one in a text editor. It's plain underneath. A folder of markdown files, one per page, tagged with what each is and linked to the rest, so an agent gets your content and how it connects without scraping. Google introduced it on the Cloud blog and ships it inside Knowledge Catalog, so it carries real weight even at at version 0.1. I built two free ways to make one. 1. A Free tool that turns any site into a bundle from its URL. 2. A Free WordPress plugin that does it in one click and keeps it in sync every time you publish. This is not a magic mushroom and won't increase your AI visibility overnight. Worth doing early, or just another file nobody reads? I lean early. Add it and let it compound. This is really big news. Google introduced the Open Knowledge Format (OKF) - a standardized way to store information in a directory of markdown files. Makes it really easy to make a digital brain that agents can use. These files can serve as a living wiki. You can give agents the ability to query them or edit them. They can interlink. Seems to me this could replace Notion or Obsidian. I can think of so many uses for this. Google's blog post: cloud.google.com/blog/produc… An easier to understand explanation is the SPEC.md file: github.com/GoogleCloudPlatfo… I gave those two links to Antigravity and asked how we could use it for any of the projects we're working on. It came up with so many ideas. I would imagine Claude Fable 5 would whip up some pretty amazing things based on this system. Currently creating an OKF library of our pepper garden. It's going to be a fun weekend.

I find it sad schema.org's future isn't being openly discussed, it's all very distributed and hush-hush. Public statements by Google and Bing reps make it sound as if things are hunky-dory, yet for those that keep up with the vocab it feels the cord is about to snap

Nice! Google just made so that any website can invite their readers to add them as a preferred source, making it more likely for that site to be seen in AI Overviews and AI Mode. This used to be just for news sites to be seen as preferred sources in Top Stories.

If you want to audit your website for AI opportunities, @aleyda's "3-Layer Framework" shows you exactly where to invest: 1) Presence 2) Readiness 3) Business Impact Terrific case study showing she needed more PR > Content, Tech SEO - perfect to show execs+lead company efforts.
📊 A 3 Layer Framework to Measure AI Presence, Readiness and Business Impact: Redefining Metrics for the AI Search Era - A new guide where I cover: How the old organic search measurement model, built largely around rankings, clicks, and sessions, is becoming less sufficient on its own in an AI search environment. I propose a structured way to measure, diagnose, and prioritize in an environment where observability is partial, platform behavior differs, and influence often extends beyond directly attributable clicks. The 3 layers of AI search success 1. Presence Whether the brand appears in the AI answers that matter, how it’s represented, cited, linked, and recommended. Replaces traffic only thinking with visibility and representation measurement Visibility KPIs: optimization and monitoring. 2. Readiness Whether the structural conditions needed for stronger visibility are in place. Explains why visibility is weak, strong, or unstable, the diagnostic layer. Diagnostic KPIs: diagnosis and prioritization. 3. Business Impact Whether visibility is translating into measurable value, using observed, proxy, and modelled signals. Connects AI search activity to commercial outcomes without overclaiming attribution. Outcome KPIs: executive reporting and decision-making. The point isn’t to run three disconnected audits. It’s that: * Presence tells you where the brand appears, * Readiness tells you why it looks that way, * and Business Impact tells you whether that visibility creates measurable value. Each layer hands off a hypothesis to the next. That’s what turns three reports into one diagnostic. Read it all: aleydasolis.com/en/ai-search… PS: I'll be speaking about this exact topic at #BrightonSEO next week, see you there 🙌
