After 13 years (35 depending on how you count!) the ESRC is closing its doors. The @FaCWebResource @WomenAus and Return Reconcile Renew will continue; research will go to @unimelb. We've achieved great things thanks to the support we've had over the years, and our wonderful staff

It's been wonderful to read all your messages over this week. Thank you for the work you've done, and the kindness you've shown in reaching out, we appreciate your thoughts & words. The ESRC has now been disestablished, and this account will no longer be monitored after today.

Terrible news that it’s closing! Mike’s thread captures my feelings. My work @esrcmelb as an undergrad profoundly influenced my attitudes towards pursuing research for the public good and maintaining the longevity and usability of data (knowledge) beyond a project’s lifetime.
Thread: Today the eScholarship Research Centre (@esrcmelb) is being disestablished by @unimelb. I started work at the ESRC twelve years ago this week, on 28 June 2008, and have remained (until today) an Honorary Fellow there. esrc.unimelb.edu.au/

This is terribly sad news. I had the privilege of working with @esrcmelb on the Restoring Dignity project.

Sad, angry that @esrcmelb is being wound up. This organisation helped @sophiecouchman & me, 15+ years ago at @chinesemuse in establishing highly-valued Chinese-Australian Historical Images of Australia web database chia.chinesemuseum.com.au Plenty more data work to do! #chinozhist

Thanks for this thread, @MikeJonesPhD. The dissolving of the @esrcmelb is incredibly sad for those who know the history, intricacies, possibilities of the work that was done there. And sad for those who may never know! – at Melbourne, Victoria

I was employed at the ESRC & worked with them since on some absolutely fascinating historical projects. It's sad and disappointing to see the University of Melbourne wind it up, but we can definitely be proud of its many achievements! Big 👏 to all esp to @ausnarkie!

I did some work many years ago for ASAP and have had various involvements from a distance with the Esrc over the years. It was a great place with important projects. I agree with your points Mike. Hopefully the legacy will be protected.

Farewell to @esrcmelb, my professional home in formative years writing and recording hundreds of women's lives for @WomenAus from 2005 to 2009.

Sorry to see the end of @esrcmelb. The Centre contributed a lot to HuNI, from @ausnarkie's involvement in the Steering Committee to rich datasets like the following: Colonial Australian Popular Fiction, Encyclopedia of Gold in Australia, Encyclopedia of Australian Science,

Thinking about all of my friends and colleagues aligned to the @esrcmelb today. A day for pause.
