We learned tonight how broken NYs criminal (in)justice system is and how discovery reform — and electing better DAs—could help. But reforms need the support of regular people. Here’s a few actions you can take.
Derrick Hamilton, exoneree and legal advocate: problem is no accountability - police and prosecutors rewarded for more arrests and convictions.
Wayne Mackenzie of NYC Dept of Probation: racial disparities won’t be solved by discovery reform alone. System wide culture, implicit bias. Need for early training and mentoring for prosecutors.
@Mich3084 breaking it down. NY has the 4th worst laws on discovery reform in the country. Two of the best with surprise you: North Carolina and Texas.
