This year we've been reporting on how Indiana schools use out-of-school suspensions -- the reason and frequency.
Earlier, we reported on how students were suspended over 30K times for fighting, and 10s of thousands of students w/ disabilities were suspended.
Now, 24-25 data show special education students continued getting more than 2x the number of suspensions per student than their general education peers. 1/4
Stella Brown, a Pike Township resident, told the school board during Thursday’s meeting she thought the letter was “divisive, deceptive and misleading.”
“I want to know: Are my kids safe, and are the teachers able to teach?” Brown said to the board. “...That's what all parents want to know.”

Confusion at today's Marion County Election Board meeting-->
A new Indiana law that lets school board candidates run under a political party is now threatening to knock the only two candidates for an Indianapolis Public Schools board seat off the November ballot.
Both candidates running for the District 4 seat — Lindsey Cornett and Chris Bultman, who already holds the seat after being appointed in June — are now being challenged, in part, because they both filed to run as Democrats.

New from me and @indyemapolis/@peterlblanchard:
The Indianapolis Ethics Commission - solely made up of appointees from Mayor Joe Hogsett - is so little known that one of its own members didn’t know he was on it until contacted by IndyStar and Mirror Indy.
“It’s a big surprise to me,” said Andy Shank, a former investigator for the FBI, Indiana State Police and State Board of Accounts.
