Backlash is inevitable when the AI leaders are debating QALY equivalence between shrimps and our unborn descendants and the people being displaced by it are writing like this.

At work

Claude 2: I found the root cause of the error
Claude 3: I'm out of tokens
Claude 4: Let's delve into these seams

The best arg for banning Chinese open source models is like the arg for patents: grant a monopoly to reward R&D at the frontier.
Patents work well for pharma but not for fashion.
What do you do about AI, which has the R&D reqs of pharma but the shelf life of fashion?
Has there ever been a Streisand effect as strong as demoting Pluto?
My kids who were born 15 years after it was re-classified couldn't tell you a thing about Neptune but are obsessed with Pluto.
After a few weekends of testing, i have discovered my Clawdad constant:

In an alternate universe where DOGE had been the one to uncover massive terrorist-funding fraud by immigrants in Tim Walz’s state, how much faster would humans get to mars?
Montessori schools are magical. One teacher can deliver a top tier, personalized education to 25+ kids aged 3-6.
But it's an open question how to replicate Montessori magic for older students. Schools like GT are betting that AI tutors is the answer.
I'm skeptical... 🧵
You can't just plop a box of Montessori materials in your local public school and suddenly have a bunch of kindergartners learning 3rd grade math.
So I'm betting it will require both new tech and new school structures to get kids to CARE.
It's tough, but I'm hopeful that startups like @primer (in a position to reinvent school structures and develop tech) and @synthesischool (the only(?) ed-tech that has figured out how to make kids CARE) will figure it out before my kids are age out of the Montessori magic.
