This is such a special moment for our sport, @FTiafoe was understandably about to launch into a big celebration but delayed it as he ran to a devastated Alex Michelson and hugged for him several seconds. Huge love and respect for both players. WOW. 🥹 🤗

Michigan's play that "shouldn't have had time added back" took less than 9 seconds to run -- from snap until the defender touched the ball. The officials were right to put time back on the clock. Watch it with a basketball-style countdown:

the game clock on TV uses whole seconds. when you time the play, it takes between 8.3 and 8.5 seconds

Michigan men’s basketball is hiring Dylan Murphy, most recently the head coach of the Osceola Magic NBA G League Team, as an assistant coach, I’ve learned. Murphy is a promising offensive mind who has led the Orlando Magic affiliate to two first-place conference finishes in his three seasons. His accolades there include NBA G League Coach of the Month honors in March 2025. 247sports.com/college/michig…

Gary Trent getting 4/$64 after the year he just had is obvious circumvention and should be punished by the league. This would fall under the provision that there is no possible explanation other than circumvention.

Morez is awesome and I understand the temptation for cbb media to think Dusty made the pick but this is much more likely due to Masai’s/Schmitz’s eval + Morez crushing draft workouts (which are usually over-weighted in eval process)
Well, we know which big man Dusty May valued most! I think Johnson’s versatility, toughness, and improving perimeter game has the makings of a vital starter on a contender at some point in his career

Reminder on draft night
How many players, on average, would you guess are on the same NBA team as 3 seasons ago? The answer is 3.07!! The average team has *just over 3* of the same players as 3 years ago. With so much turnover, why does Draft discourse focus so much on team fit?

Example 1A of why you shouldn't over-index on drafting for fit. Something ingrained in me years ago from the great Ben Falk -- "The key in the draft is just getting it right. Drafting for fit involves some measure of confidence that the player you’re drafting will turn out like you expect."
Vlade Divac says he passed on drafting Luka Dončić because he already had a point guard, didn’t want to play him at small forward, and didn’t want a big-name player like Luka in a small market. “All of my assistants told me that he can play small forward, and I said no, no, Luka is a point guard. Luka is a coach on the floor. And I felt that if I get Luka, I would have to trade De’Aaron Fox, and I already got a relationship with Fox, and I see he’s a perfect fit for us, a small market team, and Luka was a big market player.” (Via hoopshype.com/story/sports/n…) “

The Wizards opportunistically acquired Trae in a cool market where it didn't have to trade a young player or pick (CJ + Kispert). Then they turn around and hand out this contract? Was Trae really going to command a max offer in free agency? Very surprised by this figure.
BREAKING: Trae Young intends to sign a four-year, approximately $212 million deal to stay with the Washington Wizards, with a player option in Year 4, sources tell ESPN. The four-time NBA All-Star declined his $49M player option for a long-term commitment ahead of free agency.

Was only a matter of time. But did not think that time would be this soon.
BREAKING: University of Michigan coach Dusty May has agreed to become the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell me, @AdamSchefter, @PeteThamel. Major college-to-pro jump for the 2026 NCAA championship coach and swing for the Mavericks and Masai Ujiri.
